On friday we were at powis castle selling plants. neither me or julian had ever been there before. it was amazing!!!! the yew hedges are huge it takes a team of 10 gardeners to keep them all clipped.
the grotto is hidden away in the gardens. it is a very peacful shady spot
there are several ponds in the grounds. we enjoyed feeding the ducks.
this fungi is growing on a dead tree just outside the castle.
the grounds have about 200 deer roaming around

i had to buy myself a plant so it had to be artimesia powis castle!
of all the gardens we’ve been to this year this is by far the best. the trees are huge and varied. the gardens are very well kept not a weed in site. the borders were so full of flowers, the scent of the roses was intoxicating. fountains, statues, topiary, trees, wildlife and a very warm welcome from the staff. altogether an amazing place to visit if you have a chance.

Been to Powys Castle quite a few times - you are right - it is lovely. I esp like the view back towards the castle from the rhodie/wooded walk. i must say, I've never seen any deer there....and I don't recall a lake either.....there must be bits I've not seen - well that's a good excuse for another visit then!
