No trip to visit my brother would be complete without popping into my favourite nursery – Binny Plants.
Each time – and I can’t for the love of me work out how the car knows – the indicator signals a left turn automatically as I approach the entrance to Binny Estates ;) Being the consciencious driver that I am if the car tells me to turn left then left I must turn!

As I was meandering through the many rows and rows of beautiful plants, convincing myself that I was only there to have a look – don’t know who I was trying to kid!!! I remembered that there had been a couple of pictures, blogs and conversations referencing some members Bonsai collections and those who were going to make an attempt at it recently. It thought that these might be of interest to some of you.

I apologise for the quality of the pictures – they were taken on my phone and most of them through glass.

Hinoki cypress – Chamaecyperis obtusa

Chinese Juniper – Juniperis x media blaaw

Larix decidua

Larix decidua

Western Hemlock – Tsuga heterophylla

Japanese Maple – Acer palmatum

Chinese Juniper – Juniperus x media Blaauw

This one had no label – sorry folks!

Scots pine – Pinus sylvestris

Another with no label

This next one was very difficult to get a picture of – too many plants at the back of me to get a wide enough shot of it all

Blue Juniper – Juniperus squamata Meyeri

Top half of the above!

Cotoneaster – no matter how much I tried I could not get a good shot of this – I think it was the glare from the white gravel!

Don’t know the name of this one – but it was my favourite

This was a tiny little thing – again no label

Excellent Bonsai. I really love the Larix but they are all spectacular! Where is Binny plants please Scottish? I've heard of it, but I don't think I have ever been.

Thank you all!
Glad it's of interest to you P...thought about you when I saw them!
Karen....what do you mean you have never been to Binny Plants, tsk tsk!!!! You must arrange a trip down for paeony flowering time - a nice wee Sunday drive. Billy Carruthers is the owner - world known for their paeonies. They have a website - www.binnyplant.com or google search Binny Plants, there are plenty articles. If fact weren't you at the SRGC show last week - he was there and had a beautiful display at last year's Gardening Scotland.
The address is Binny Estates, Ecclesmachan, Uphall, West Lothian.

No apology necessary Scottish . . . it's so great seeing all these perfect specimens - thank you for thinking of us and taking so many pics in difficult circs! My fave is the 8th picture (the first with no label) - amazing shape and foliage. :))

21 Apr, 2012

Picture 8 reminds me of 7's Oak .... place a Heron in that crook...

Love Steragram's idea of mini bluebells under the Larix! I have a tiny Sisyrinchium which "arrived" under my bonsai beech (or larch?) - if it has tiny flowers I will take a pic. :))

I'm pleased so many of you have enjoyed these pictures - I hadn't quite taken much of an interest until Sheilabub etc was speaking about them. I had walked passed this glass house many times without actually looking very hard.
Pixi you'll just need to save up some pennies :))

Very interesting. Bonsai trees fascinate me.

I think your car and mine must be related. They both seem to have the same habits lol ;o))

Thanks Hywel.....if you tell me you drive a Ford then we will have to complain to the manufacturers ;)

Fantastic blog Angie!!

Glorious blog Scottish. This year there were workdays at Binny when experts were on hand to allow people to get up close and personal with the collection. They need to be kept trimmed etc and the work days which were free were designed to allow people time to enjoy a hands on experience of the plants.

30 Nov, 2012

Thanks Sheila - those work days would have been interesting - especially for beginners.

I imagine they will continue next year because there is a growing interest in the hobby. Pixi my mum used to say leave your purse at home when you go shopping because you can always go back and it gives you time to think if you really need something. I should take her advice more often.
