Lily beetles :o(

I had a day doing all sorts of garden related things and as I was looking at the front bed my eye was caught by the red berries of the I foetia. Then one moved in the emerging lilies.
7 lily beetles later they look clean.
Checked the crown imperials and they looked all clear.
So keep an eagle eye out for these pests.

Goodness, I wonder what they're saying...
Will try to remember the garlic Sandra. I wonder if he got a crop from the cloves he planted?

They say hold a piece of paper underneath to catch them falling / jumping off.
My Nan used to find them in her garden.
She said, they didn't always die on the first squash.

Hi. apparently there are 2 insecticides you can use, 1 is thiacloprid, which is in bayer provado ultimate bug killer,
or acetamiprid, which is in scotts bug clear ultra.
Lily beetle are active from late march until october, but only have 1 generation of young, Derek.

Ultimate bug killer is good, it even kills earwigs if you get a direct hit!

Thanks for this warning blog, SBG! Last year when my Lilies I was growing from seed, on the allotment I share with Gerry, were flowering for the first time I came across these red beetles! I think I even made a blog on here or asked a question about them.
I had intended to move them from Gerry's plot to my own allotment plot, but after finding so many of these beetles I decided to lift them in the autumn & brought them home to put on our balcony. I noticed just a few days ago they were now beginning to come through the surface of the soil in the pots so I shall have a look tomorrow, though nothing caught my eye the other day.

they are sneaky devils look under the leaves and where the leaves wrap around the stem. they like hiding there.

Horrid things!

I had a look but found nothing - yet! *Sigh of relief*!

I found seven this afternoon :-(

A couple of days ago I found 2 of the "critters" on a few Lilies I'd missed on Gerry's allotment when I dug the others up in the autumn to bring them home to put on the balcony.
Though my Lilies on the balcony are growing fast now a look just a couple of days ago assured me there were none on our balcony. Phew! But I must try to keep on top of them as they are probably like the greenfly, one moment there's no sign of them, the next you have an infestation!
