Belated Christmas present

I started clearing some of the border today and the first job was to remove a self sown buddleia. In previous years I have shredded the prunings but my shredder was decidedly old and regularly clogged. It was a spinning blade a bit like a hover mower blade. OH hates it with a passion and sort of hinted I was on my own with this job.

He said he was off to see a friend. He then came back with a new shredder for me. The ‘friend’ is the salesman at the local garden machinery supplier, who we have used for all the garden tool purchases for 20+ years.

It did have a ribbon round it. As he walked past he uttered, happy bleeding Christmas, not exactly jewellery but it does have shiny bits’.

The cutting part is a conical set of blades a bit like a pencil sharpener on steroids haha. It has a good sized collection box and is surprisingly quiet too.

The remains of the buddleia, a bit of apple tree and yew shredded and will be left to one side to mature before going on the garden borders.

Quite a desirable present - even non gardening OH was impressed when I showed him. Ours doesn't make a very good job at all.

Well done that man!! I have a lidles one that works like yours...it's fab cutting and shredding. The shreddings work well on a muddy path that leads to the chickens, they help keep it dry. Happy shredding !

yes bloomer he is a Yorkshire man :o))
Hywel I'd like a space for an alpine house! but I cant so the shredder is excellent. It lives in the 'outplace' next to the freezer. So it is out of the way but close to the door and the plug.
Stera that's why we got this one as I always got him to unjam it and if he was in his workshop he got fed up of being disturbed.
that's a good use for them Sandra, mine will become mulch as I don't have any paths to speak off.

Happy shredding to you, I would save it and put them on the log burner, ideal kindling!!

We still have an open fire and OH cuts down the odd pallet for kindling. its dry and lights easily. the wet stuff is very smoky and soots up the chimney too quickly DD2 but I can see why it would work if we had some where to store it.

Yes it would need to dry out, and for an open fire pallets are ideal, no waiting!!

Oh just my sort of Christmas pressie, less trips to the tip!

My sort of Christmas present, although I am onto my second shredder. The bigger bits of shrub pruning I are put thought the shredder a second time as I put all my shreddings onto the compost heap and they don't rot quickly.

oooh....what a brilliant present! I had a shredder once..like your old one...more trouble than it was worth. But at the same time, shredding is so good for getting your rubbish down and ready to compost. The new one looks perfect for the job! Happy Shredding!
