Weather forecasters spot on rain wise.

They predicted strong winds and rain for us today. The strong winds haven’t materialised but by 12 o’clock there were spots of rain. But I had jobs to do.
The last of the parsnips were lifted and are currently roasting with the chicken [4pm].
The area has been dug over and I have planted all the onion sets, it does just like dug soil but there are 50 onions in there. I had started them off in cells and are doing well.
I did a bit of repotting cuttings as the rain steadily got heavier.
Before I came in to sort out the evening meal I took several photos.
Hepatica nobilis just starting to flower.
Two self sown hellebores. This one with a pretty centre and the other has a much redder colour that the photo suggests.
Two hyacinths are starting to flower, pink fondant and gypsy queen a nice orangey colour.
The corydalis are starting to flower. This is Beth Evans.
This one, I will have to go and find the label for this. It is either Korns purple or Purple leaf
It is much colder today but my garden needs the rain so I wont begrudge it too much.
The oven is ‘beeping’ so tea is almost ready so I will check this for spelling and then publish. Hope you have had a decent day too.

I must remember to sow more parsnips for next year. I only do one 6ft row as OH doesn't eat them. They were very sweet too.

Super looking parsnips, when do you sow your seed? I'm thinking early April on the allotment. The anemone-centred Hellebore is good too.

I usually sow them about now end feb/march. I don't find last year seed is viable so I always buy fresh seed and any spare goes into the bird table food. They are slow to germinate so don't expect signs for at least 6 weeks.

Hi Eileen, the weathermen can't go wrong forecasting rain, if it rains, they got it right, if it doesn't nobody complains, a win win situation, love your Hellebore seedlings, Derek.

So true Derek. How's the back progressing?

Hi Eileen, my back is a lot better now, thanks for asking, not quite up to gardening yet, but at least I can move about now, Derek

Mmm, Parsnips roasted are a favourite of mine. Shame we don't have the allotment now, nowhere in the garden to give over to a veg plot really. Lovely to see some colour in our gardens at last!

Gosh you're keen Seaburn, I only garden in the g'houses if it rains, lol, I love parsnips but only veggies I grow these days are beans, carrots and my salad crops, haven't made a start on sowing anything yet, you've really got the bit between your teeth, lol, well done....

March really makes you feel impatient to start sowing seeds & transplanting plants I, myself, have been biting the bit for several weeks now! I'm itching to get on with it but as there is so little space on the balcony it's very difficult!
I did manage to plant up some Begonia tubers in smaller pots which will be put in the ceramic pots on the balcony railings for the summer. I even managed to plant up the two big black hanging baskets with the trailing Begonias I'd bought a couple of week earlier.
Other than tomatoes I don't grow any other veg, though my son gave me two Strawberry plants last year which he put in hanging baskets for me. Unfortunately they don't look to have survived the winter 😞
Today we have VERY strong, cold winds & some heavy rain showers - not a very nice day at all!

We had roast chicken today but unfortunately the parsnips were from the supermarket!
I love hyacinths whether they are indoors or outdoors and the corydalis are very pretty.
