Second quarter of February

This month is turning into a very variable one weather wise. But many of my plants are performing well. Several more Iris have opened this second week and I must say I am really pleased with them.
This is first one is ‘Clariette’.
This lovely purplish one is iris reticulate ‘DS Dijt’
And this one is Iris reticulate ‘Caroline’
I’d planted a nice white Cyclamen coum near these iris and they do look nice together [well in my mind they do :o) ]. I noticed some seedling Cyclamen too.
Iris danfordiae has opened nicely and has been left alone by the slugs this time.
There are several crocus in spots that are starting to show colour. A new one to me is Spring Beauty and the outer of the flower looks pretty.
This one is a really good one and is growing again strongly. it is Vanguard.
Towards the end of the week I did some tidying up in the front garden and the scent from this Daphne was lovely.
I also bought some pots of snowdrops and they look different to my other ones. So I will have to do some research to see if it is a different species. I hope so.
On Friday I went off to a lovely hotel north of Scarborough with a group of my quilting friends. We rode out Dennis in lovely Victorian house. We sewed for the weekend and I started making a quilt for a friend. I also made a play mat for a friend who has just had a baby.
When I got home on Sunday it was see a few more cyclamen and iris were open. But that will be the next blog.
Hope Dennis didn’t cause you any grief and you all stayed safe.

They all look so pretty and amazingly happy!!
You must have had a lovely weekend in Scarborough and the play mat that you have made is delightful. One very lucky friend and new baby!

Lovely quilt, and lovely Iris. Glad you were safe from Dennis. We had trouble sleeping last night...but we are fine...very little damage.

Gorgeous Iris - you have some beauties there. They seem to do a lot better in pots, I wonder why - unless it is that you can keep the drier in a wet season.
My word, you chose a wild weekend for your sewing break - guess you didn't spend a lot of time on the beach...its a lovely playmat.

You have some great iris, still no sign of mine, I fear gone! I bought them in the green last year, soil to heavy I guess.
You are talented with the quilting, I find it fascinating.
Your Daphne looks like D mezereum, it does smell divine.

I find as long as the iris have good drainage they do well in pots or in the ground. I plant them on gravel or sand and I do feed them after flowering as the leaves are there for a while.
yes it is D mezereum and I love the green of the leaves as it is such a bright green.
I could see the grey sea from my room but it is a good 20 min walk through the grounds to the cliff path that takes you down. Driving back the sea front road was closed so I didn't get that close to it.

Such a pretty playmat, you are so talented, a future heirloom!
I am so envious of your Iris, I won’t be tempted to get any more earlies though! Once bitten.......

Wow, I'm not used to see so many things blooming so early. As you can tell from my last 2 blogs, mostly browns & gray over here. Love the quilt too - another masterpiece.
