I have had a beautiful day and finally finished the weeding in the border. I had 4 islands left, one was to come out totally as it was Lysimachia punctate. 2 were Paeonia rubra and the final one was a clump of Hemerocallis but I cant remember its variety.

This photo shows the way the grass gets in between the tubers of the Paeony.

I have literally been breaking the soil up into small pieces as evidenced by this photo Victoria took today.

I dug out a compost bin a couple of weeks ago and spread this onto the soil and raked it in before replanting the plants lifted to day.

This little Erythronium ‘Joanna’ has opened up in the warmth today. Such a delicate apricot colour.

The tadpoles are doing well and some are strating to explore the edges of the pond. But the wren has developed a taste for them and I am sure the fish will soon.

Some of my favourite flowers on the go at the moment
Fritillary ‘Rubra’

Pulsatilla alba

Corydalis China Blue

Dicentra ‘Spring Magic’ and Lamprocapnos spectabilis

A large flowered Aubretia with hyacinths and Snakeheads.

I have selected several pots of plants to be put in hopefully tomorrow to take my mind off this problem.
This is a bit of floor joist with woodworm! Should be getting fumigated tomorrow.

Any idea which Daff this one is? it is so pretty.

Tonight I am going to give my self a manicure and a nice warm bubble bath to ease my aching back and hips.

Luckily I have several more borders to sort.

Ooh love your Aubretia, I am trying some this year - will be happy if it is half as bonny as yours!

Lovely photo of you SBG...you look happy in the sunshine! And you've got some gorgeous flowers to enjoy too. :) There are so many tadpoles there....hopefully a few will make it.

Who knew wrens eat taddies? How do they catch them - you are joking aren't you! What a gorgeous colour that aubretia is! And Corydalis too - what a lot of nice treasures you have.Thank you for the photo - could hardly be more different from what I'd pictured!

not joking Stera, the wren hops onto the plants in the pond and just picks them out. A couple of Xmas back a wren took a baby fish that had hatched in the summer. It bashed it several times on the pond wall but we disturbed it and I put the fish back in. It is still a live but swims ina spiral. obviously brain damaged.

Dare I ask what you imagined me to be like? No you don't need to answer that. ;o))

Great pic of you Eileen! Have to agree, you look a happy gardener, despite all the hard work! You’ve done a brilliant job, all looks fantastic too. Vivid spring colour.

What a wonderful and heart-warming variety of plants you have. Congratulations on such a lovely garden and on the very professional looking photos. I'm fairly confident that your narcissus is 'Edward Buxton' an early flowering, small cup cultivar which I believe was bred here in Cornwall.
I notice that you have replanted the entire clump of Hemerocallis. A clump of that size would be easily split into two or three with the aid of a pair of back-to-back forks. Voila! Two for the price of one. At this point I'd like to quote a well-known TV gardener who blithely quipped 'but who's got two forks?' Really? Send a pic when it's in flower and I'll try and identify it for you. My own collection hasn't been added to for a few years now, but it still stands at about 45-50 cultivars at the last count. I also started a breeding programme but ill health put a temporary stop to that. Maybe next year.
Keep up the excellent work, and above all...enjoy it!

Thanks bigbumblebee, it was split 3 yrs ago and I misplaced the label then. When it flowers I will be able to check it against my plant list on here. well that's the plan but any further verification is always welcome. It will be a yellow/orange/red one as that is the theme of the border.I don't have nearly that many probably 10-12. I do love them. I split Jolly hearts as it was bigger than this clump and really was too big to lift in one go. I have potted up 2 good sized chunks of that to sell at the garden groups I go to, well once they are up and running again that is.
I have 3 forks 2 of mine and one that was my father in law's. but to be honest I often just chop through with a sharp spade.

I will have a looked at Edward Buxton thanks.

What a lovely selection of plants and colours you have there,Eileen, and nice to see you looking a very happy Gardener,in your element ,no doubt ! :o) I have been spreading my Compost on borders too,so that's another satisfying job done..I didn't know about Wrens going for the Tadpoles either..and even a small fish in your case..we live and learn !

Thanks Bloomer, wren fishing is a documented phenomenon and I didn't believe what I'd seen until I checked.
Lots of the tadpoles are missing as the fish are now finding them. I knew this would happen sadly. but the tadpoles have to take their chance.
