Up too early to go to work.

After a restless night I got up an hour earlier than normal and for a nice change I had breakfast with my other half. Prepared all the packed lunches then went and found my camera. Had to tiptoe into my eldests room to get it.

I then woke and fed the pet bunnies and then had a walk around the garden. I thought I would capture what is doing well or showing future promises to come.

So hope you like what I have:-

A firm favourite, Dicentra spectabilis ‘alba’

The next 3 are all hardy geraniums with lots of buds. The first is G.phaeum ‘mourning widow’ but dont know which ones the other 2 are. They came from my mums garden as seed, so they might not be a true species but hybrids.

Then onto a heavenly scent and that comes from Smilacena. I have 2 of these, both only been in the garden for the last 2 years. So I am really pleased with their progress.

Then a walk into the front garden and I noticed this beautiful apple? blossom. I cant remember it ever bearing fruit but coming from the same rootstock there is a cooker grafted on that always fruits well. It is in tight bud at the moment.

Well I will stop there. There were lots of other photos taken that will prbably end up with my plants information.

The upshot of this morning’s leisurely stroll around the garden meant the girls slept in and I was nearly late for work!

How many apple trees do you have?

You have some lovely varieties and when the weasther so nice makes an early morning trip round the garden such a treat.

We too have some of these plants Dicentra alba and hardy geraniums like the look and sound of fragrance of the Smilacena . Unfamiliar with name so searched and found it also called false spikenard which rang a bell apparently good in a woodland setting so on the wish list ..

thankyou for the lovely comments. I have a cooker that fruits well but needs correct pruning. I'll be asking for help. from the same rootstock is this gorgeous deep pink blossom. I also have a large crab apple. The blossom is pale pink, the foliage is deep red/bronze and the crab apples are deep red. [ornamental i think]. thats all in the apple stakes and they are in the side border of the house.

The smilacena is 'under the beech tree' so yes good for the shady areas. It is a beautiful sweet smell, i like it even more than the skimmea.

Lovely photos. Why didn't you show more ? I can't get round to seeing the picture page these days. There are too many on it now and it takes ages to trawl through them.

I'm going to have to get a Smilacina, I have the perfect spot for it by my tree ferns as I want to plant some things that brighten the area up as it is quiet shaded. I already have an Arum that grows well there and one of these would be ideal.

If I dont get involved with other things I'll do a part 2 for you Blodyn. But work is crazy at the moment.

trees- yes i think it would grow well in that situation. They also produce bright red berries too. The birds love them. If you havent found one by the autumn I will try to save you a berry :o)

I think your other two hardy geraniums are G. macrorrhizum. There is a pink variety called Bevens variety.and a pale colour,Ingwersens var.but as you said they are probably hybrids. They look nice plants anyway and make good ground cover.

thanks for giving them possible names. I'll see if they match.

I like that Smilacina! Nice. :-)

I adore the smell it is quite citrusy [is that a real word?] and sweet. It gets bright red berries in the autumn abit like daphne ones.
