what I miss when driving.

I live in one of the rural villages and travel to and from work by car. However the last few days I have been looking after my daughter. I took her to one of the villages I pass through, where we had a little walk.
A beautiful cherry tree next to a medevial church.
A pretty little speedwell in the bottom of the hedgerow
As we strolled I noticed the ash trees had odd swellings on their tips. When I got up close I realised they were ash flowers. A first for me, I have never noticed them before. Clearly wind pollinated.
Further along the road we came to the first veiw of Skidby windmill. Built in the early 1820’s and now a working museum it is a view visible for miles around.
We stopped for a rest and a restorative cuppa with a view over the Yorkshire Wolds towards the Humber Estuary.
You can see the uprights of the towers of the Humber Bridge too.
Walking back to the car we noticed the blackthorn and chestnut in bud and some gorgeous magnolias in the gardens.
An hours stroll but less than 5 minutes in the car and I do this journey every day.
Not as picturesque as Hywell’s Welsh hills but this is the view from my back garden.
Pity about the pylon though and no cows to add to the bird song.

yes so true Sanbaz. the main reason we bought this house. there was another strong contender with more garden and a nicer looking house but it was overlooked.

exactly so you picked it because of the outside more than what was inside, i would do the same if i moved again, the position is more important i think

Yes Hubby is very handy and we basically gutted the untouched 1960's interiors and moved walls etc.

a bit like when i moved in with baz lol, he was still living in the 70`s, i wouldnt move in till he agreed to change it all, i had a wall knocked down and wanted an open plan living area and stairs, we laugh cause he says ive taken away his identity lol,,

she is on the mend thanks, though still tearful and bruised.
It wasnt a difficult decision once I could visualise what hubby had in mind.

Thank you for showing your lovely Yorkshire countryside. That little village looks so peaceful. The museum must be very interesting to see, and I always like to notice the trees and wild flowers.
You have a lovely view from your garden. I don't think it's wise to compare different places. It can lead to negative feelings. Everywhere has it's own beauty and should be appreciated for it's individuality.
I hope your daughter is all right now. I should think the stroll was beneficial to her.
I enjoyed your blog. Thanks :o)

Lovely pics - I did the same last summer got out my bike and rode down the Hayling Billy track near where we live and it was lovely just to be nosy and see what other people are growing and the surrounding countryside and down to the sea. (The Hayling Billy track is where an old steam trains used to cross the bridge to Hayling Island - unfortunately the train is long gone but the track is lovely to walk/cycle along)

Ah country side. I am sure Im a country girl at heart I love it so much. But never had the opportunity to live in the country. Your photos are lovely; all I look at each day is bricks and concrete. Thankyou for bringing the countryside to me

I'm struck by the clarity of the pictures and sky - I live within half an hour of Heathrow airport, and funnily enough, I noticed over the weekend how crystal clear the sky and air were over the field opposite me. But its not now, despite the weather still being beautiful, sunny and bright - I can only assume that the resumption of normal activity at the airport has reintroduced the photosynthetic smog haze that we usually see here. Oh, to live by the sea...

After 9/11 a scientist noticed how much brighter the sky was and when he did very accurate research he concluded that there was 'global dimming' happening and vapour in the atmosphere was the main cause. Israel has had a 30yr+ study measuring brightness. This was excellent science and supported by other evidence. the research makes fascinating reading [yes I am that sad:o) ]

You and me both, then, Seaburn, except I've got the excuse of age (mine being greater than yours) I find myself now listening to Radio 4 and watching a lot of informative scientific stuff on BBC 4 in preference to "lighter" entertainment and, dare I say it, I even watched the prime ministerial debates - I'm aghast, I seem to have moved into a parallel universe, one where I'm actually interested in these things... never thought I'd take any interest in anything remotely political. No one warns you that's what happens when you get old... deary me, what with that and all the vitamin supplements and 3 pairs of glasses, I've turned into my grandma, lol
