Gardeners World

Anyone watch Gardeners world this week (daft question on a gardening website) Toby was doing a scented front garden and i thought i’d jot down the plants he was using for those of you who haven’t seen it, i think its always useful to know scented flowers.
He used:- Honeysuckle ‘Graham Thomas’ (sun-semi shade)
Sweet Rocket,
Nemesia – Wisley Vanilla
Dianthus – ‘Fizzy’
Heliotrope – ‘Princess Marina’
Chocolate Cosmos (made me think of Davids garden!)
Lavender
Roses
Eleagnus ‘Quicksilver’
(can be used as hedging grows to 5-8’, Intensley scented but insignificant flower, followed by egg shaped orange fruits in Autumn)
The other garden he planted was a themed one, his theme was based on the Spice markets of Morroco, so lots of deep colours to reflect the colours of the spices, for this he used:-
Oxalis – Sunset Velvet planted in groups
Gazanias – ‘Daybreak’
French Marigolds ( he also uses these to plant next to his sprouts to deter aphids)
Petunia – Surfina ‘Burgundy’ (that was a gorgeous deep reddy colour)
Helichrysum petiolare ‘Limelight’
Bacopa
Cineraria – ‘Silver Dust’, the last 3 are used as a bacdrop for the brighter colours of the others
Incidentally the Helichrysum is also used as a remedy for the skin condition ‘Rosacea’ used as a toner and cleanser!

I'm verging on becoming an ex-viewer. See they even resorted to a 'repeat' last night. Will watch next week as it's Gardener's Live but that may be the last time.

Was it a repeat Wagger? oh sorry i hadn't seen it so i didn't know! I must admit i don't enjoy it as much as when Monty did it, it was a lot better then and i hate the hot and cold wall!!!!! stupid idea.

The repeat bit of it was when Carol was in her friend's front garden, usually Peter puts the names of the plants that have been used on the programme about a couple of days after its been on.

oh yes that bit was but i didnt think the rest was.

Sorry, Skilla, I didn't make it very clear. I meant the bit Clarice says about her friend's front garden where you could hardly understand a word they were saying for the cackling. I agree about the hot and cold wall. Don't think the 30 minute task is very successful either - and as for Joe's paving - well, least said the better I think.

Yes its a bit cheeky isn't it putting in bits that have been on before, cheapskates!! The 30 minute task this week was also a bit of a joke, but Alys' attempt was quite funny!!

Thanks for taking the time Sew, like Wagger Ive definately gone off the programme. Hubby and I take a stroll out and about to see whats going on in other peoples gardens and to visit the local pond and watch moorhens. I will watch on line, that way can skip the bits I dont like

I didn't watch it Sewingkilla but i like your synopsis of it and i might have watched it if you'd written this before! You have a way with words :)
I'm afraid i'm not longer a GW viewer :(
I can definately vouch for the Nemesia, i have 'Confetti'. These plants give such a huge fragrance, they're gorgeous.
Interesting fact about the Helichrysum.
