At last some sun!

Been quite hot here today (Lincolnshire) i have been trying to get out and get the grass cut for ages, but have been decorating daughters bedroom and you know what its like if i’d have stopped that would have been it!!! Anyway finally got it finished just waiting for a wardrobe to arrive from Argos, hope its got all its screws!!
So as i said i got the grass cut and it was quite long! Found a dead mouse that Toffee had obviously been having a good time with great thanks Toffee! I didn’t take a photo of it, didn’t think anyone would want to see a dead creature.

David (he of Charlie and the Chocolate garden) asked me a while ago how the archway was growing as he has the same one, well here you are David its done quite well for its first year. I do wish now though i had cut out the bottom of the boxes on either side so i could plant into the ground, one has a climbing rose in it and the other side is a Clematis, i am wondering if they will be ok or wether i ought to do the above, will have to have a think!

If its nice tomorrow i want to get out and tidy up the flowers a bit, the Aster is just starting to open but it needs tying up, the Nicotina have nearly had it but as long as there are a few flowers i will leave them, less room for the weeds!
I also want to get some bulbs in, still haven’t planted the tulips i bought earlier (see photos), am putting them in pots near the back door.
Still getting a lot of tomatoes, the cherry ones are delicious i put them in the oven with a sprinkling of Olive Oil and a clove of garlic, bit of Rosemary from the garden and roast them Mmmmmmmm!
So still a lot to do before the dreaded winter sets in, Happy Gardening folks!

Good tip about the boxes on your lovely arch Sewingkilla I bet lots of people think that later? Do the boxes unscrew on every side? if so perhaps that might help or if they are slatted will the roots grow through?

That is a beautiful rose SK and I think it would probably appreciate a deeper root run if you could manage it somehow, there's usually a way if you really want to do something! Isn't it amazing how much lovelier the garden looks when the grass is just cut? - smells lovely too :o))

Glad you're getting some sunshine and are able to get into the garden. I enjoy mowning the lawns, sad but true :)
Your arch looks great, the plants have done very well in such a short time.

I agree the rose is gorgeous and your garden looks so well tended, I took the lawnmower out yesterday and it had a heart attack trying to cut the lawn (about 6 ins high in places) have to do it again in a min!

LOL Indy i had to put the mower on a higher setting then went over it again on a slightly lower one!!
Drc76...no they don't come off easily, i will have to think about that one, am sure the rose would be better with a deeper root system, will have to tap hubbys brain!
