13th November - preparing for winter

A lovely clear, sunny morning today, and quite mild. So OH and I got busy tidying the greenhouse, and bringing in from the cold frame seedlings which may or may not survive . .

On the sunnier side are tender cuttings, including the Dietes which Beattie got for us on ebay.

Then I decided to make a quick tour of the garden, to snap what is still in flower in mid-November. I’m afraid the pics really ARE amateurish, because the battery in my old camera only lasts for five minutes! “We” keep saying that “we must get a new one” but it’s not a priority right now.

Schizostylis

Silene (red campion)

Clematis Florida Viennetta

Don’t know what this little purple flower is

Eupatorium ‘chocolate’

Cosmos which self-seeded, only just flowered, and are 6" high!

You can just see the pink Rose ‘Magic Carpet’ behind the low-growing blue Campanula

Pink Geranium

White Ipheon in pot (I’ve never known this to flower for a second time before), and Red purple-leaf Geranium

Then the battery ran out, so I can’t show you the Iberis, Lavender, Polyanthus, Abelia, many Petunias, a Fuchsia, one Lychnis, one Nerine, and Bacopa! Ridiculous but very nice. :))

You have still got a lot of flowers going on there Sheilabub, lovely. I am hoping to go out into the garden after I have fed the children..going to move a few plants whilst the weather is so good, the sun is out and waiting, but I cannot rush the oven :((

That's good Sheilabub, it pays in the end, when comes spring there won't be a lot to clear out. I do the same.

Thank you very much Karen, Terra and Grandma for your generous comments! Glad you've had a good one too, Grandma . . . the dark evenings aren't so bad when we've had a sunny day. (And even better, we're about to light the log fire!)

Ooooohhh lovely Sheila, toast your toes!

As had been said your pics are lovely Sheila, you have lots of colour still in your garden, its a bonus isn`t it and does help make up for our dark nights, job well done in the greenhouse, it was really mild here today with sunshine as well, I found a nasturtiam in flower under my birdtable, only one in the garden this year and a gift from the birds...

Pleased you had a good dy, Sheila ... I keep wondering how long this mild weather will last? ... Like you, I have a couple of tiny Cosmos in flower ... just seems so strange as they did not bloom in the Summer! :o)

I know it's seasons gone mad for plants to be in flower - or flowering again - at this time of year, but it IS lovely! I have a white Agapanthus that threw up three new flower spikes and is blooming away still - and yesterday I also noticed a tiny pink self-seeded Cosmos. Perhaps next year all the confusion will die down? :o)

In a way, I hope not Nariz . . . we get some nice surprises in all this confusion!

Thanks Shirley. :))

Lovely to have time to enjoy the last of the garden flowers, and tidy up before the winter is upon us, unfortunately no greenhouse here, all tender plants inside house and porch, the rest outside bought nearer the house and will be wrapped in bubble wrap etc, a lovely day today spent the afternoon in the garden.
