My greenhouse today

Amazed to see that the temperature hardly went below 10 degrees after the coldest day and night of the year! It’s a very old ‘max-min’ but seems to work . . .
I’m thrilled that many of these cuttings have roots already: Pelargoniums, Penstemons, Geraniums and Verbena
Pelargoniums a little bit sad, but alive
Libertia ‘taupo blaze’, dwarf Jacaranda and Loropetalum looking snug
When will they finally fall?! We have plenty in store already, and it’s glorious to have blue sky and sunshine on the first day of December
Twins hoping for a good home! The little teddies are called Charlie, and are from “Farms for City Children”, the charity run by author Michael Morpurgo and his wife. They have three farms in Devon where children from inner cities come for a week to learn about the animals, and growing vegetables, and help with all the work – which they love! Often this is a first taste of country life, and the experience can make a huge difference to their confidence.
I shall reluctantly have to give them away soon, lol :((

Thanks Sue! Although I said the farms were all in Devon, it's quite likely that there are some a bit further away. A brilliant idea, and going strong after 30 years.

Thank you Dawn - I'm pleased that I've learnt about cuttings (finally!), and the thermometer has served me well :)

Cuttings are as thrilling as growing from seed, aren't they. I tend to only take semi ripe cuttings, the third week in July, taught by my Dad.

Yes - they are fun :)

Your cuttings all look so good and healthy Sheila ... did you take them in the Summer? I fear most of my Penstemon ones will not thrive as I took them too late.
Love those Teddies! :o)

Shirley - thank you! I was given advice by a local lady who runs a small nursery with mostly geraniums and pelargoniums. When I said I would be away mid September, she said it would be fine to take cuttings when I got back . . . that is what I did, and even took others in October. They seem to be fine!
Hopefully your Penstemons will be OK if they're kept fairly dry (and I suppose frost-free?) but I'm still learning :)

Looking good in your greenhouse Sheila, lets hope they stay that way, if I lose any its always late spring so alls well here at the moment...We had really bad frosts this week which did cause nearly all the leaves to fall, I spent nearly 3 hours clearing them away on Thurs under a sky that looked like yours, was shattered afterwards but boy it felt good....I have never taken cuttings from my Penstemons, I layer them and then cut away from mother plant when they have rooted....

Thank you Sue - and your last comment sounds like good advice (I'd not heard that before :))

Ahh! aren't they sweet?
Interesting that Michael Murpurgo is the instigator of Farms for City Children. There is one not far from here - I wonder if it is part of the same organisation?
Your cuttings are doing well - lots of promise for next year there!
