A stroll around Highdown Gardens
10 comments
No rain lashing down, no gale force wind blowing so we made the best of a grey day by visiting these gardens for an hour or so this morning.
Highdown Gardens are gardens on the western edge of the town of Worthing, close to the village of Ferring and the National Trust archaeological site Highdown Hill, in West Sussex, England. Overlooking the sea from the South Downs, they contain a collection of rare plants and trees, collectively a national collection. The gardens are owned and maintained by Worthing Borough Council with free admission.
There are a fair few photos, taken in the order of our stroll, so please just enjoy them with very little text!
Lovely catkins on a tree by the car park.
Setting off now …
I can remember my children touching the original trees many years ago.
It is difficult to explain how deep this chalk pit is, but the sheer face of the chalk may be seen behind these trees.
It was so lovely to see these Spring flowers and I imagine the Anemones will look fabulous when they are in flower.
Leaving the lower garden now, feet were feeling cold!
This area had been a Rose garden for many years.
Thanks for strolling around Highdown gardens … I hope you enjoyed it.

A lovely stroll with you Shirley around a garden I have never been to before. It looks really well maintained with some lovely plants and areas. I love the bark on that Cherry Tree. Thank you for being our guide.

Hywel, I used to take my children there and it's always a lovely place to visit throughout the year.
Rose, I think 'Cabin fever' was setting in. so even though it was definitely chilly, it was good to get out.

Klahanie, many thanks for looking in. We visit there three or four times a year, to see all the different flowers through the seasons.
