Visit to Breezy Knees Gardens York

We’ve just been away for a couple of days for our wedding anniversary (27 years) to York, I spotted a garden in the RHS mag a few months ago that I said to OH I’d love to visit so on Friday that’s where we went I really wasn’t expecting there to be a lot to see as it closes on the 30th September till next year, how wrong I was :-)
The garden is quite large at 15 acres with lots of different areas the first picture shows around a third of the long path leading to the garden, with farmland on either side it is set with plants that are rabbit proof, both side are planted identically, great wheelchair friendly paths too:-)
At the end of the path you go through a gate to the September garden and Wow what a sight!!!! ,unfortunately I couldn’t fit the whole lot on one picture so here are just a few shots.
Quite liked this plant even though it had flopped a bit Silphium Intigrifolium
Helianthus Happy Days
This sanguisorba was wonderful a huge clump well over 6ft tall , Sanguisorba Caucasica
Through another gate to this fountain :-)
And a great display of penstemons, I just want them all :-)
Another lovely area with a pond which you can’t really see in the picture.
Shady borders
Four raised beds with a pergola seat in the middle.
I really liked the way everything was clearly labelled , next time I must remember a notebook,so many perennials I’d never heard of, everything that’s grown is sold in the nursery.
I loved this plant but the picture doesn’t do it justice the flowers are tiny and a very pretty pale blue,a great mingler.
Succisella Inflexa ‘Frosted Pearls’
Just a small area of the conifer and grass garden
Part of the Cottage Garden.
Euonymus ‘Maximowiczianus’, how the heck do you pronounce that!!
This display of dahlias was pretty impressive.
Long double borders.
Still quite a bit of colour in the rose garden, and look Bathgate they had one of those lovely cornus ;-) but unfortunately not in the nursery.
The Shrub Garden
I don’t know what this plant was it had grown so huge I couldn’t find the label but the scent was amazing, anyone know?, the next picture shows it in the background, I really need it but haven’t a clue where I’d find space lol.
The Rock Garden, well should have been but looks like I missed most of it off the picture, to busy drooling over the white flowered plant :-)
Can you believe this garden was only started in 1999 with a framework of trees shrubs and hedges and the first flower borders were only planted in 2006, there wasn’t a weed in sight which is down to bark chippings and lots of them, even more amazing is the garden is maintained by the equivalent of 2 full time gardeners as all the staff also work in the nursery.
There was also a peony and daylily garden but I was so busy seeing which varieties they had I forgot a picture, but not a lot to see in there this time of year.
Of course I spent a long time in the huge nursery that specialises in unusual and rare perennials and of course a few jumped into the car lol.
We had a lovely time some long walks and a couple of very good meals out and the weather was brilliant too.
We’ll certainly be going again next year preferably at daylily time ;-)

thanks for the walk around. I'm not far away but have never got round to going. Many of my local HPS group swear by it.

Glad you all enjoyed the tour :-).I'd definitely recommend it I've seen pictures in the summer on the net and it looks even more amazing, and for anyone who loves perennials its a must very reasonably priced too, the nursery is huge and everything looks healthy.
I also think I've found what the huge white plant is :-),thought the leaf looked like a persicaria and it was in the Rogues Gallery, plants that can spread and be a bit invasive but many of which are lovely, so I googled huge scented persicaria and there it was Persicaria Wallichii :-)

Loved seeing these gardens Kathy ... thanks for sharing your visit with us. Isn't it strange how plants can jump into cars though? lol! ... :o)

You'll love it Homebird, just hope you've got a big car boot ;-)
We stayed in a lovely B+B and found it was only 6 miles away from where we were staying only trouble is we put the post code in the sat nav which of course took us the quickest route through the middle of York took us 45 mins!!, needless to say we put an alternative route on the way back 8 miles but only took 15 mins.
