this patch of ground is situated around the back of my office and faces East. There was a dutch barn here at one time and the ground is made up of stones and poor quality soil. The south end of the plot as some fruit bushes in there and there was a small path. There are also some type of rose bushes in there too..Id really like to clear this and start again and perhaps create a place to sit..what do you think, any ideas would be welcome..

Reminds me of an allotment I once had, yes a seating area would look nice, what kind of seating were you thinking about, wood, harbour, iron, stone, hammock, hot tub lol there fore it would be sunny morning and shade afternoon, winds, east wind is neither good for man nor beast.

hmmm, lots of work ~ a digger for a start; then if it was mine and i wanted a place to relax i would make sure it was sheltered from wind then put in a few good fruit trees and grass the rest with wild flower seeds mixed in also bulbs.
i find that a relaxing place to be ~ dont always want to look at something i should be weeding; but to be out in the shade of trees with flowers around would be lovely.

They say to plant wild meadow flowers you need to de fertilize the soil, quite a process if it's good soil, nice effect though with wild flowers if you can make them grow. I plan to have some long meadow grass in my garden this year, trouble is the dogs play in it, flatten it and dig holes in it!

the plot size is about ten feet wide by 40 feet long..i had originally thought about building a terrace type of thing..with a sort of 'mexican terrace' feel all very terracotta and dry looking..??

Yes that sound lovely also less up keep too.

dont mexican gardens often have bright colours in them? you could paint your wall if you wanted to have a theme?

7 Feb, 2011

i was going to render the wall and paint it blue..

Hope you'll get some help from your colleagues?? Like the sound of a terrace for your seating area (sheltered), and mown paths through a grassy meadow with wild flowers is a great idea: poor quality soil is just what they like!

does this area get lots of sun?

7 Feb, 2011

yea the plot gets sun most of the day until late afternoon really when it dips lower behind the office there..

well worth making a nice area of it then ~ be nice if all offices could have such lovely surroundings.

it was an old pig sty in the days of it being a farm..i made it into an office a bit of plasterboard and cheap carpet..oh and it shares the full length/space with a citreon dx..

7 Feb, 2011

how nice to have all that space!
you could even make your garden area rather roman-esque? with pillars and pools??? oh and statues?

so much space!

Enclose it some way, either with a wall or hedge, then make an out door garden room for entertaining or relaxing in. Could be Mexican if you like that look. With plenty of things to eat growing near by and of course flowers to admire and fill the air with glorious sent. Could be done with bits and bobs you find at car boot sales or cast offs or recycled things. Yu could paint things to blend in.
Keep us posted as to the decision.
