This is always a year- to year will it make it question mark.
I had a few, some were taken, some died, then down to two..now just one.
I also have done nothing to make it a Bonsai other then the pot it is in. I’m thinking that since these are unheard of tree’s in the bay area..I might next year put it in a large nursery pot and lets see how big I can get it. If it survives the winter. Last winter? well look at the photos graphs..I had my doubts it would break into bud. So,Im grateful its here still.

I'm crossing mine for you as well Stan...

Me too Stan. I hope it survives and brings you flowers and pleasure with years to come. Plants are more adaptable than we give them credit for (with proper care). Fingers crossed here.

Thanks all. I will bring in on any big freeze--- its those rare freezes they didnt call (Like Jan when it was supposed to be well above freezing-then we had a freeze that killed off the Crotons.) I can't do anything about.
It would be nice grow D.regia in a large container- feathery fronds casting light shade. In ground- it might be too cold and wet here, plus gophers aka "Worse creatures then the devil himself on a really bad day"!

When D. regia becomes a tree bigger than 15' it's tough. It can stand freezes pretty well (not protracted freezes, though). It's the cold and wet soil that does them in, especially when young.

They so far have been unusual from my usual tropical plants in a mild temperate climate. They barely survive winters, they leafed out late...but after that, they grew very fast.
I probably will move it to the porch -out of rains, safe from frost too- when we go into a permanent cool down.
Today is very fall like, gray, drizzly and not above 65f. Everything to warm up later in the week. I have a some more garden plans then.

It's finally cooled down here, only 77 degrees the last two days. It's only going to be short-lived, though. It's suppose to get hot here again. :((

It looks great! I hope it survives the winter so you can try it in the ground.
