One of our more infamous winters seems to have passed by..sun,a bit warm and longer days are taking hold.
Weeding aplenty to be done. Clean off old worn leaves. Nothing makes a tropical type garden look bad then winter worn foliage..lol.
What a winter. HUGE dams almost burst making world wide headlines. Big city’s here had neighborhoods flood. Hundreds or more trees knocked over.
Interesting that even with only a single night reaching the freeze mark? ALL the following chill and lack of sun and of course wet caused much more damage then a colder dry winter ever did.
Exploring the idea of moving to Florida..the SF Bay Area is so crowded, noisy…terrible traffic. Florida still has lower cost homes on large lots. Just be able to afford air con 10 months of the year running all the time!

Yes, our temperatures are rising......17C is forecast for here in Essex on Sunday..very mild for March.
You certainly get extremes of weather there Stan.

Sounds nice Paul. This has been a rollercoaster last 4 years at least. From coming close to running out of drinking water- we were down to our last 8%- to 5 months later and now 95% average in total and up to 200% in the wetter parts of the state.

I wish I can say Spring is here, but we are bracing for yet another Nor'easter and wicked cold temperatures.

Well Florida sounds like a good idea - far removed from the San Andreas fault....

There's nothing quite like South Beach!

11 Mar, 2017

I found Florida to be as hot, flat and boring as Kansas. No matter where you go though make sure you are within 30 minutes of a well reputed medical center.

I'll stick to Southend on sea........it might be cold and miserable there, and the beach isn't up to much but....we know what to expect!!!

I live..ONE BLOCK from the Hayward Fault. It can and will do as much damage as the more famous San Andreas. Downtown..some sidewalks are wavy from the fault.
I applied for a grant to have my house retrofitted and braced. I guess they never got to me.

The bay area is great for young people. I'm thinking flat and neighbors far away sounds good. SO does the medical care not being too far away.
Here? I do have a huge advantage in that EVERYTHING is minutes away. Shopping,Medical care..vet. Plus I'm a block from the BART..an electric commuter train.
Its a hard call. I have no mortgage..and I never - almost never use electric air in summer. In Florida they run 24/7 ..that has to cost.

Florida is OK for short visits, but too hot for me in summer. Do you drive Stan? Florida is flat and spread out. Getting the shopping/errands done is an all day affair - driving everywhere. Not a lot to do if you don't like the beach everyday - gated communities could be very isolating too.

I drive Bath, but I hate to. Always did. That and the Florida heat and humidity and hurricanes and floods are a worry. Here?
Nothing but winter rains- and nothing but sunshine in the summer,no rains,no high humidity,no mosquito's,and it might not ever go over 40 C the whole year. Mostly in the 24-28c range.
It is noisy..I live near TWO main BLVDS. Ugh,I have seen for myself the bay area grow. Its like rush hour everyday, all day.

11 Mar, 2017

It's really hard to get on without a car in Florida and hard to find people with all the gated communities.

11 Mar, 2017

Well Stan, I know that you are very near a fault line so hold fast where you are. If a quake comes and that fault line takes a good slip you might find yourself in Florida without ever having taken a step:)

11 Mar, 2017

ha!- Or in Japan. I hope its one of the tropical southern islands..

12 Mar, 2017

It is true a Science fact that Hayward is on the fault heading towards Alaska in a few million years..while San Francisco to the west is creeping to Baja. A blip in geological time!

Ahhh! How refreshing; finally a mass migration to Mexico.

Loosestrife: Don't forget a ladder!!

LOL!

I think I would be tempted to look into Florida too Stan. But then again it's sometimes..." better the devil you know" ?

15 Mar, 2017

Thats true. Florida is a very Trump conservative area. The SF bay area is the exact opposite.
But,I could grow coconuts in Florida..lol.

15 Mar, 2017

Yeah but Stan..... man cannot live on coconuts alone you know! Ahahahaha
Plus am sure they would do you an injury if they fell off the tree and hit you on the head!! Lol

15 Mar, 2017

Would be my luck.
At least we have had a week plus of warm..even up to about 27C. Still,we are a mild Mediterranean climate and next week..more cool rains.
Things here grow at a slow pace. In Florida they can grow many times faster. Good for us older folks who don't have "20 years and it will look great" to use anymore.

I only know Florida from books and films. Daughter and family have visited twice and hope to do so again this Summer. I always tell them to check the pool for alligators!!

They get very excited about different plants and creatures.

18 Mar, 2017

Am sure your still a spring chicken at heart Stan! Lol

Florida- south Florida is just about a truly tropical climate. Winters are great. In California we water all our garden in summer. I read in Florida people plant gardens and never use a garden hose. It can be very rainy in summer..perfect for the plants.
