Just some block or two photos in Hayward.
The tall fan palms are planted by an old estate that goes back over 100 years. The palms must be 100’ tall. Orange tree in one photo..nice sized.
Some familiar house plants growing outdoors. Schefflera,Dracaena,Ficus benjamina.

The Canna look spectacular too Stan. Looking at your photos reminds me that I long ago asked a visitor from the UK what she liked the most about the USA and she said " The sun, you have so much sun!".

Super photo's, fancy living on a street called Mango Street! Much nicer than many of ours named after Councillors or local Noteworthy people - were they or was the Council just sucking up to them?
The Cannas are superb, shows they adore the sun, what is the tree in the picture above them, with lilac/blue flowers? Spectacular tall trees, are they prone to high winds or do they bend with the wind?

Is the purple tree a Jacaranda, Stan? I just love those trees and it's so nice to see a huge one like that shading the house!
Back in 2009, I think, I grew some Cannas in my town garden and the leaves were as attractive as the flowers.. thin stripes of green, orange, and pink, if I recall. It's wonderful to have so much sun, because everything just explodes when it finally rains!

Hayward in the 1950's had Tropical dreams. The tropical street names..whole brand new neighborhoods that had a Fan palm fronting each home. Sort of ironic that it was a 9b climate that dipped below freezing every year,to 50 years later a 10a climate. Maybe global warming, maybe urban warming ..but plants can tell the difference.
Now,you can plant a Mango and it just might grow. Mine is!

Lori - Yes a Jacaranda. I was on BART today- our monorail..and from that height you could see purple clouds all over the city. Nice.

I loved the jacaranda too. But the street names really made me smile! There must be lots more possible - Cherry Crescent, Banana Close, Date Drive, lol...

Might try to get ours renamed as Gooseberry Grove!

Hmm,I wasn't paying attention..and those streets were about the last I was on. Just funny I saw them after just driving in circles. Next time,I will look for Pineapple lane! Sounds like a Beatle song...

I live on Half Moon Street, yet it's not a street but just a track that leads up to the fields at the top. There are a total of 6 neighbours, 2 on one side & 2 on t'other & 2 just off to one side.

We have Half Moon Bay. Its billed it self as "Foggiest city on the planet" There are a few other near that could challenge!
