A miserable MAY.

Its been so chilly..and foggy and windy the whole month so far. Now,the average day is 68f,20C,but that’s not the whole story because it seems to be more 16c most of the day before we hit our high for an hour or so.
Last year by this time,we had many 80f or 27C days mixed in between the 20-21C,Or low 70’f . May was great last year.
I asked the local weatherman and he claims there is a cold upwelling off the coast. We even have had record Whale sightings feeding off the Anchovy’s that like cold waters.
But,I have been planting away what I have in pots. The cool is helping to take stress out of them. I have killed a few plants over the years transplanting in hot weather where no amount of watering them helped.
I hope June heats up..because this is really bad spring weather.

Plus there has been much of "June gloom fog" in May. No sun until afternoon.
I can see the longer days encouraging plants to do their thing. Just very slowly Ster.

A bit more cool sounds fine with me, but then I like the cooler weather. We have had some really hot days lately, today is overcast and much better, I might even get some plants into the garden!
As you say it's pointless trying to plant in hot weather and even if you put them in overnight with lots of water the next day scorches them. I think the majority of plants prefer a slow build up to heat, they can get their roots down to a cooler temperature and can then endure some of the scorching heat that they may get - it's always 'may get' over here in the UK as it's so unpredictable!
Your display looks lovely, happy and healthy so they are not complaining.

Thanks HS!..They say its not near a record cool month of May,but after last year being so nice..this year also seems extra cool from the infamous San Francisco fog..like big over stuffed pillows in rows above you.
Sunday,"true middle of the year" type warm ( not hot) returns..23c or so.
Can't wait.
