A trip out west

Thought you may like to join me in my trip out to visit some folks in the west country:
Firstly under the new and beautiful bridge to nowhere ~ from Exeter to a new town that hasnt been built ~ something like Cranford??
And then to the lovely Otter estuary:
For those of you who know South East Devon this picture will give you a big clue as to which beach I was on:
A splash of colour growing by the wayside:
And then onto the strange but fascinating world of western Garden Centres and their local characters, first the baby monkey puzzle ~ a favourite of GoY trips ~ i believe?
The beautiful hellebore couldnt be missed out:
And now to meet the characters: Is this a GoY member I wondered?
This one had a secret to tell ~ more like a warning, methinks ~ when you see the next character
~ GoY goes walkabout with weapons of mass destruction:
from there things went from bad to worse ~ look at the effect on the plants ~ are things really reduced to this?
Aint you got an-ome to go to asked the old man supervising the book stall?
Go west, visit G o Y
Go west, you will laugh and cry
Go west, where the plants grow tall
Go west, and you’ll have a ball!
Together, we will have a rest
Together, we will find the best,
Together, visit every friend
Together, we’ll go round the bend!

Before it rained when you nearly bought a dozen rhododendrons you mean???
22 Feb, 2011
it was before you got the very good looking assistant to help carry the monkey puzzle tree but after i had chosen 3 rhodedendrons and then swapped them all.

thanks everyone, yes we had a great time ~ were supposed to recognise each other by the badge i was wearing ~ my stickitoffee poppy ~ but i lost it on the way to the cafe! luckily Tet had printed out the same picture and put it on her table.
Otter sanctuary ~ thats clever lulu ~ its a lovely river altho the walk beside it is usually busy, there is a mill about 3 miles along ~ sells wonderful soup and cakes. think i would be there everyday if it was up to me!
those pebbles fascinate me paulsgarden ~ i have masses of pictures of them! i made one picture into drinks mats as a present for a friend ~ they turned out well!

Great pics, Sticki, and the table-mats are a great idea.
Only been to BS for a weekend, but looked in on the wonderful mill you mentioned - fantastic hand-made crafts there - and walked along by the River Otter and saw a Kingfisher!
23 Feb, 2011
How wonderful is that..worth the day out just to see one!
23 Feb, 2011
Looks like the weather improved. Seeing the 'bridge' in the rain would make me wonder whether heading home was the best option.
Otter Bay looks lovely.
23 Feb, 2011
thank you everyone ~ its lovely sharing pictures with you cos you are so appreciative!
i have only ever seen a kingfisher twice ~ once was just before some of the river water gets to the sea in BS and the other was at a mill house we stayed in last year for my birthday ~ i looked out of the window and there it was ~ such a treat!!
the mill is definitely worth a visit ~ for the soup alone!!
23 Feb, 2011
I'll mark that one up for when we are down that way..would love to see a kingfisher..and the soup sounds good too.
24 Feb, 2011
always different, always good!
