Some pictures from the (big) Garden Centre

On my way home from work I have to drive past a large garden centre; naturally there are days when I call in! I thought you might like to see some photos of the gardens they have attached to the garden centre:
I like the huge stone pot:

Cornflowers and poppies are some of my real favourites:

There are vast plantings of them:

Some unusual colours of poppies:

The wild flowers are planted in waves:

Daisies and cornflowers:

I love these giant stipa(?) grasses:

the blues and yellows:

The thistles are huge, a special variety whose name I don’t know:

This is part of the rainbow borders, here is the orange/gold area:

There is a lot more but I thought I would just give you a taster!

Sticki - I would have just passed it off as my own garden!! You'd have to have very tall flowers to go into that stone pot! lol

My goodness!, that's a very grand garden centre Sticki! Some over here do the odd area as a so called garden, but none are as pretty as this! I'm sure it sells plants for them too, fall in love with one in the garden...and then gallop over to the shop bit to buy one, or three! It's lovely! Going on favs as inspiration!

I wouldnt be able to do all the weeding Sheilar!

I think thats the idea Libet, they are a nursery as well as a garden centre; thats how they started anyway; as well as the riverside gardens that are in the photos there are some small gardens to give ideas, i like those too!

Wow! great pics! Love the Cornflowers! and wild flower bit! and the pot! Beautiful!

25 Jul, 2011

It is nice isnt it.

Those cornflowers are gorgeous..I do miss the fields of wild flowers I used to see when I was young, but I see from Countryfile etc., they are encouraging them back again. I must admit that the paddocks behind us were wonderful after the horses left (too much ragwort growing there), lots of meadow flowers, but then they turned the place into allotments some of which are overgrown and showing wild flowers!
Now do stop throwing temptation in front of my eyes Sticki! Cant afford another garden centre lol!

Yes, I agree: lovely flowers. I miss rolling in the meadow amongst the flowers.......takes me back to my youth!

Have you ever tried telling your grandkids that Gdad? I have! The look on their faces was priceless..they thought I was always gaga..

25 Jul, 2011

Very pretty and it must be nice to have a place like that where you can pop into now and again. I love the 'wild flower' look in some of your photos :o)

Lovely - I love garden centres :))) Looks a very pretty one with all the pretty flower colours - the grass is gorgeous - looks like the Deschampsia I have, must get this one too now :DDDDDD . I love those big jug pots too :))))))

Thanks Sticki - it does look a tempting place . . . it must be quite difficult to drive PAST and not stop! Love the poppies and cornflowers, and wish my Stipa (you're right) gigantea was like these. :)

How beautiful, love that big pot too and the grasses and the cornflowers!
I think that large grey thistle may be Cardoon?

26 Jul, 2011

Really nice I like the cornflower's such a bonny blue :-)

26 Jul, 2011

I'd spend a lot of time 'popping in' there Sticki. I often stop on my way home and have a wander round my local Gcs just to chill for a bit after work. None of them are as nice as this one.

26 Jul, 2011

Everytime I chill out in a GC Annella, my bank manager has apoplexy!
Hey Hywel, start making the pots...we will queue up for them!!
Sticki you cant beat the good old fashioned cornflower in blue, but I bought an interesting packet of seeds the other day, called Cornflower Double Black. They are doubles of a deep maroon colour. Different!

26 Jul, 2011

they are lovely tet, the double blacks.

26 Jul, 2011

At one time this was the biggest garden centre in europe!? and it has won several awards, there is of course a coffee shop, it has lots of plants and garden furniture etc etc!! they are quite helpful too.

26 Jul, 2011

Theres nothing quite as sweet as wild flowers is there.
Lovely photos Sticky and a lovely place to meander round while your unwinding from a days work.

26 Jul, 2011

thanks stroller, it is nice and the gardens are away from the commercial bit which is good for unwinding!!

Lovely blog, Sticki, and how nice to have gardens with a garden centre. Looks a nice place to visit even if you haven't any money to spend :)

26 Jul, 2011

yes thats a good point gee, it doesnt cost anything to see the gardens! neither do you have to go past a till!
they are lit up at christmas time.

26 Jul, 2011

What a beautiful place and what a gorgeous pot your photo's are really good:)

26 Jul, 2011

thank you nana d ~ you are very kind. its very near to junction 5 of the M5 if any of you are coming this way.

26 Jul, 2011

Such an inspiring place to visit, the GCs around here could do with some of this.....wonderful, thanks for the taster, perhaps more to come?

Hi Sticki, lovely photos, i have one of those Stipa Gigantea, have just planted in border so not got any of those lovely flower spikes yet, hopefully next year!! :^)

27 Jul, 2011

thanks DD ~ i can put a few more photos on if you like

Daylily ~ wow! lucky you ~ i love those grasses but my garden is too small. perhaps i could try them in the front garden??

27 Jul, 2011

We have it too in our grass border, it looks stunning in the summer had loads of spikes this year, and our garden is small Sticki......

27 Jul, 2011

Sticki, my gardens not very big either, but sometimes a large architectural plant looks good doesnt it, we have put it in the south facing border as it does like full sun and well drained soil, and i know your garden is shady isnt it? but surely it wouldnt be too big, i have seen a few around our estate in the front gardens and they look fab! Its recommended that it is put in place where the afternoon/evening sunshine can shine through it. :^) ps like those grasses in the first picture too (they look like grasses anyway with the purply flowers, thinking of getting one those too).

27 Jul, 2011

I remember now they said full sun and that put me off but the front garden faces west - admittedly shaded by trees but maybe I could find some room? I really like them.

27 Jul, 2011

Wow...looks like a great place, Sticki! lucky you! In the first pic there is a clump of grass in the front right of the photo which has reddish seed heads...Guess what, Daylily???I have a field of that! it's so pretty in the sun...it's a kind of purple haze (don't mean Hendrix) across the top of the meadow.
That huge amphora must cost a fortune. Imagine making something so huge? Enjoyed the tour, Sticki. Thanks!

Hi Lori, sounds lovely! :^)

28 Jul, 2011

thanks lori, i think i would fall in that pot if i was trying to make it ~ i would be in there calling ~ and no one would know i was there!!

grasses growing in a field are lovely, its watching them in the breeze that fascinates me.

28 Jul, 2011

I was very surprised to see this beautiful grass in a garden setting. Will have to take a look around to see what I can find about it's taxonomy.

28 Jul, 2011

Dont have a re-sip-y for that do you Sticki? Stickitoffee in a pot! LOL!
Now lookee here Lori..really must warn you we flag people who use ahem..language on here! Hope you are not flagging yourself my friend..you will be wishing for winter so you can have a rest!

28 Jul, 2011

That is some GC. Love it, Sticki T. Think I'd be in there every day if it was on my way home.

28 Jul, 2011

Oh Tet! LOL.... <:^) My dunce cap! hee hee.No I'm not flagging...just taking a rest! going to put on a movie and veg out this evening. Sticki, were you talking to Hywel to ask him about making large goY pots? Would you use coil method or a mold, I wonder? probably need many, many blocks of clay!! Then build a HUGE fire pit to cook it in! lol. could be costly. or not? Might be easier to just look at Sticki's pics and dream our own. Or talk to Bampy about a concrete casting!

28 Jul, 2011

Sorry Sticki ... just catching up with this..
Good pics :o)))

31 Jul, 2011

31 Jul, 2011

31 Jul, 2011
