Oh what a lot I got!

No, I havent been hiding from 3 irate ladies (?) intent on washing my mouth out with carbolic soap! I have been a very busy girl today.
My plants were getting all sodden with this continuous rain so I bought another growhouse greenhouse. It came yesterday afternoon.
Spent the morning putting it together, then rearranging everything so we could stand it the OTHER side of the greenhouse..so now I have one each side both 4ft wide by 5ft (ish) high.
When it came to filling it, I couldnt get in the space left between it and the railings (another reason for a diet I guess) so OH had to put the plants in it.
At the same time had a massive reorganisation of my plants, iris germanica in one grow house (plus one set green shelves), day lilies, germaniums etc in other grow house – including 6 pots of camassias which are all sprouting..hurray!..my iris sibiricas I left in the open cos they dont mind the rain.
Just to let Stickitoffee know I took my poppy root cuttings and they are now in the greenhouse, which is half empty, waiting for the seeds I am about to sow.
I cant fit any more shelving in my garden now..full to bursting. Anything else will have to sit on the patio!
Havent I been a busy girl?

you sure have. I too did some tidying up in the greenhouse and planted up some Allium bulbs. Loads to sort after the frosts/snow still.

I know SBG, I was looking at a very sorry pile of yukky brown stuff (which used to be crocosmia) today. Plus another pile of slimey leaves from the trees in the street..always get into our drive!
I must get some allium to dot around too..thanks for reminding me.

You certainly have Tetrarch. It has been really wet hear in Glasgow, but the weather is so mild I have to stop myself doing any February jobs. We are sure to get more frost or even snow. I look forward to the new gardening year.

wow felt worn out reading this Tetra lol you have been busy, well done, havent started anything here yeat, i just cant go out in the winter, im a spring and summer gardener haha

15 Jan, 2011

I haven't either..very mild today, but a gale force wind and very heavy rain, all day..so not exactly gardening weather..

15 Jan, 2011

I had to Sanbaz, I have a lot of irises, and in lots of wet like we have been having they can get rot, and there were some dead leaves to get rid of..and lots of sibiricas shooting, so cut off their dead leaves..I have 10 4ft shelves of germanicas/sibiricas..I had to check every germanica for rot. Will be checking on the garden ones in the morning cos we have MORE rain forecast for tomorrow afternoon. Despite my moans I quite enjoy winter gardening as long as its dry, I just wrap up warm to start, and shed layers as I get hotter. And im not a pretty sight being big to begin with!!

15 Jan, 2011

Better to be nice and warm to start with,Tetra,,at least you are motivated, and you will be pleased as punch, that you got all that work done..:o))

15 Jan, 2011

I will be if they all survive! I have some really beautiful irises which havent flowered yet..cant wait to get the camera out. I notice that you go dancing..so you must be fairly agile, I have to keep moving otherwise its back to the walking stick. Been doing a bit of hopping around myself lately (in the hall where no one can see me) to make up for the lack of walks during the snow!

Wow Margo you have been a busybee, its a great feeling to be able to get outside and tidy up a bit though, pleased to say I managed a few hours outside today as well, although I was around at my daughters garden instead of my own, lol.....

16 Jan, 2011

16 Jan, 2011

Oh, now when I read all this it's made me want to get on .... ! You've inspired me :o)
(Wash your mouth out with soap ? - I don't think I want to know what that was about lol)
And carbloic aswell ! :o(( lol

You are a lot of early birds! (or very late ones)..Hywell I not sure if Im the best person for inspiration but Im glad you got something positive from this..happens to me sometimes on here..someone has done something and I think..I must get cracking! And no, you really dont want to know about the carbolic!lol!
I hope she appreciates it Lincslass, obviously its dry with you over the east side..we were over your way last year on hol, first visit to the Cathedral for 30 years..my favourite CofE tho Beverley runs close.
Hope Sunshine stayed warm during the snows Cristina. Yes it looks hopeless and a mountain to climb at present, but a bit of green here and there starts the adrenalin in your blood. Im looking forward to a dry and productive week from Monday onwards. Hope you all get one too

Early ones - about 6 oclock lol but then I fell asleep again :o))

16 Jan, 2011

You have been busy Margo, making me tired just reading this lol, I had a afternoon in the garden too yesterday, luckily we haven't got the heavy rain here, started the huge job of clearing all the borders, trouble is were to put all the rubbish all my compost bins are full and haven't had a council collection for over 2 months due to the snow, so filled plastic bags and took them to the allotment to put on the compost heap there, brought a few leeks back and made some soup, really enjoyed my afternoon, my 3 camassias are sprouting too can't wait for them to flower :-)

16 Jan, 2011

You are not alone Hywel..Im into nanny naps..cant avoid 'em sometimes! But I do like getting up early, I like the world to myself for an hour.
Well you havent been a slouch either Simbad! All that rubbish..my OH would be doing a wardance..he likes things to be ultra tidy (not in the house thank goodness but rubbish in the garden). Do wish I liked leeks but it will have to be buttersquash, carrot and coriander and may be a chicken broth..I can tolerate leeks, celery and parsnips in VERY small doses! Pleased about your camassias..we must keep comparing notes.

16 Jan, 2011

Oh dear, I do feel guilty, haven't done a thing. Wont today either AH birthday, out for lunch, probably a roast, little drink! ~~:o)))~~

16 Jan, 2011

Margo, you and I have both been busy. I was in my garden yesterday for a few hours with the shovel, spade and hoe....I decided not to lay down the gravel yet...the paths are set, the side stones down (most of them) but I'm bringing too many things into the garden it would just make them all dirty and yukky. Will wait until most of the major work is done...

16 Jan, 2011

Well done you, i'm like Sandra i dont garden when its cold, just can't get going but keep going in greenhouse to make sure everything is wintering ok.

16 Jan, 2011

Cant see anything wrong with that programme Pamd, I love having someone cook lunch for me and I RARELY refuse a glass of wine! Its just that every time I think of what it would cost, I think, bloddy nora, I could buy X amount of plants with that! Am I mean or what??
Alex, I was going to ask about how the paths were getting on but I was too busy washing my mouth out lol! Glad to hear they are coming along fine. Pics please when done!
Clarice, there is one benefit from being my size..I have my fat to keep me warm!!! Otherwise, I too would be making very few sorties into the cold wet and windy garden.

16 Jan, 2011

my word what a busy little thing you have been, I thiught maybe you had been hiding from three irate ladies but obviously not, all sounds good and a lot of hard work going on there, like some I don't garden in the winter, roll on spring,

16 Jan, 2011

I do - I've spent several hours out there over the past week, since the weather improved. Yes - I have a trailer full of rotten slimy leaves and stems (YUK) and also a huge pile of stuff next to the greenhouse. OH will have fun taking all that lot to the tip, won't he!

It does help to get out there and get some tidying done - I agree, Tetra. I got too chilly in the strong wind yesterday afternoon, though - I gave up. It's raining again today, though. I draw the line when it's too wet. :-((

16 Jan, 2011

im very impressed tetra, you have done loads and lovely to hear about the poppy ~ thank you!!
i shall look forward to seeing photos of all these growing ~ whats carol kleins programme called? you could do a series: Tetras greenhouse through the seasons?

16 Jan, 2011

What I know you could write on a postage stamp Sticki...they still do 3 minute programmes dont they?? lol
Carol Klein's programme is a Year in a Cottage Garden..or near enough, 8.30 on Friday BBC2..tho its a bit slow going at the moment..must admit they skip over a few things I would like to see in detail, but I will give it a few more goes..her latest book is MUCH better I think, which I had for Christmas.
Yes I admit a cold wind kills it for me too Spritz and we are high and fairly open to N Easterlies. Coupled with rain its the greenhouse or the puter..one gives me ideas on how to spend money...the other gives me the opportunity..

16 Jan, 2011

Well M...no grass growing under your feet...lol You've been very busy. I can't imagine the greenhouses, shelving etc. that you must have for all your tender plants and the ones that need shelter from the rain.

I can't do much in our garden yet as the topsoil just is too wet (where the turf will be laid in early spring) so I just have to be patient until then. Puter still acting up too...but I've been able to be on GoY for the last hour to catch up on blogs etc. so things are looking up!

17 Jan, 2011

I will send PM Jacquie

17 Jan, 2011

Hey Alex, how about some "in between pictures" of your new paths?? Its nice to see the progress, especially to look back on.

5 Feb, 2011

Well, its now nearly a month since I took my poppy root cuttings (so glad I blogged it, forgot to put date on the labels), but apart from my Patty's Plum which is showing another leaf next to the first one (same root I think) nothing else has shown..the greenhouse isnt heated so Im still hoping...and hoping they didnt get overwet either cos I left them outside for a week. Still Miss Klein begs me to be patient - according to her bible, if they arent in gentle heat they will take longer.
