FINISHED THE FRONT GARDEN AT LAST!

In my last blog about the Front Garden, OH had replaced the edging of the path with some fancy rose and thistle border bricks and some light terracotta rope edging. I thought it looked very smart but the front door canopy really let the whole thing down. So I came up with the following idea which my brother in law turned into reality!
The old tired canopy…
soon disappeared…
To be replaced with…
Just needs a top coat of paint and voila! a cottage garden porch.
I had a last minute inspiration for a fence and it took only one and a half hours to appear!!!
Shows off the plants a treat..and I couldnt resist posting this picture of Crocosmia Star of the East (sorry Yorkie lol) but it is magnificent this year.
We are thrilled to bits with the wonderfully professional job brother in law made!

That's fabulous, Tetra! Such a professional job, isn't it cottagey! It must be a pleasure to walk past your lovely front garden up to your beautiful new front door!! Well done you, on your great ideas, and your bro-in-law, on a terrific job! :0)

Thanks for your kind remarks all. I will tell brother in law how impressed you were..he deserves all the praise!
I already have a couple of clematis ready and waiting for one side, and will have the climbing rose Arthur Bell on the other..bright, cheerful and golden as Dottydaisy will testify. And the lovely perfume to welcome us home!
Thanks Val, I know you were there at halfway..so you are able to judge the difference!

It all looks smashing Tetra and will be lovely with the clematis around the door..

How nice just to ask for something to be done and "Flash" it's done ! What an improvement to the front of your house.

That is really lovely, skilled man and great idea.

Cant wait for them to grow Lincslass. Got the royals in one pot..Princess of Wales and Royalty!
He is sooo quick Mariek (he was a cabinet maker before retiring). My neighbour was keen on having one too..but he wont take on work now he has retired, this was a great favour. Think she was a bit miffed cos he said sorry but no.
We had a bit of a fight cos I insisted on paying what a builder would charge..I would rather give the money to a rellie who's top notch any day, than to a stranger! Besides which, I want a fence along the back garden wall at some stage LOL!......
Thanks Sticki, Im sooo chuffed, cant help showing it off.

How delightful Tet. I love it, I can see a nice rose climbing up and over that porch, wonderful.

Just inspired - what a fantastic improvement. It will be wonderful with clematis.

You've got a beautiful porch, M. It is a job well done by your brother-in-law. Your flash of inspiration with the lattice fencing works a treat too...all looking very welcoming :)
It will be so pretty once your clematis and roses are blooming around the porch.

Going to have them on the fence too J, the back garden was full of perfume this year..want to do it with the front now. I have this desire to surround myself with lovely, perfumed flowers...
Thank you my friend, how is yours going? Must check your blogs to see if I missed anything while I was away!

I haven't updated with a blog for ages....the weather is taking its toll on my plans. We are just managing to keep the lawn cut but I haven't managed to get the summer house painted yet.
We have enjoyed the garden so much...so glad we finally bit the bullet and went for the change :) I received an early gift last week from a friend....one of the shuttered mirrors for the garden which I hung up yesterday....very pleased to have one.
Perfumed flowers will be a lovely addition to your front garden, M...you've really done a fab job on both gardens and I am sure it was worth all the decision-making and execution of your plans.

What a transformation! Really smart, and will be beautiful with your plants around the door. Lovely welcome home!
16 Aug, 2011
Thanks Constance, it will be a few weeks yet as it needs at least one top coat of paint with sanding down in between.
I will have to be patient while I gloat every time I come home...when we have done something we like OH and I have a little "gloat" now and then..at all hours!! What are we like?
Hi J, thanks my friend. Lovely gift that mirror, saw one while away on hols..verry nice! Sounds like you have to be patient too..ahh..the Wet Wirral! Still, your plants are slurping it up and will put on a bit of weight while you wait! lol!

Just Wonderful, wonderful definitely my style and it reflects your passion for your garden. The addition of the Trellis not only looks good but will enable you to plant more roses, just imagine the sight and the smell next year for you and OH to gloat over, just wish you were nearer so I could fill up my senses. Enjoy.

BA came to visit from the Midlands by coach, bless her cotton socks..and ended up with a sprained ankle for her trouble! Anyway, what I meant to say was, Stroller, whenever you are down this way, do drop in. Thanks for your kind remarks. As you say, a rose on the trellis, and also on the garden trellis..cant have too many luscious highly perfumed roses now can we?
Of course, you could ask BornAgain to organise a visit together with yourself and anyone else from that area, she's really good at that sort of thing lol! (She hasnt seen this page, or she would sue me all over again lol!)
