VISIT TO BLICKLING HALL AND GARDENS

Our final garden visit was to Blickling Hall and if you go to Felbrigg you can do this one as well. Together with Priory Gardens they are within a few miles of each other.
I will try not to blurb on..the garden speaks for itself.

First, the formal views -

Next the borders. I fell in love with the white one..so lots of pics of that!

Some of the best classic borders I think Ive ever seen.

Sooooo much work! What a beautiful house and garden though. Do you know, I have only done ONE, that's one single garden visit...and that was in May..to a house with a field full of daffodils and nothing else! The weather....doh...grrrrr.....next year though....:))))

I have added it to 'Places to Visit' in my gardening book Tetrarch. A beautiful garden.

But a field full of daffs is a wonderful sight Karen! Yes, it has to be your turn for a really good summer up there.
Thanks Linda..it really was gorgeous. And plants that I like, the spectacular grasses, actea (I think lol) and some good architectural plants..not too over the top. Just lashings of flowers and greenery!

A lovely place to visit.

I did these two garden/houses 3 summers ago. they were stunning then. I think Felbrigg has a colchicum national collection too.

Did you wander up to the orangery? I had a wonderful time and went back twice whilst oh went fishing in the lake.

Oooh thank you so much Tet! Lovely photos - I had no idea it had such beautiful gardens, but I've always fancied visiting Blickling Hall as I believe there are many stone memorials carved with wonderful lettering?? I hate long drives, but should make the effort!

Blickling & Felbrigg are beautiful arent they? Visited both a few times, the most memorable was the outdoor concert at Blickling. The program was 'Last night of the proms' so you can imagine the enthusiastic singing from us lot. The stage was set in front of the lake, the full moon rose as the concerted entered the evening & fireworks at the finale, what an unforgetable day. Champagne corks where raining down from the afternoon to the end ( we took a flask of tea & coffee :-)
Your photographs are superb Tety, bringing it all back. Magic.

Thanks Terra, Clarice, glad you enjoyed.
SBG, I didnt see the colchiums even tho I went into the greenhouse, guess they werent out 3 weeks ago? Otherwise Im going blind as well as stupid! Yes we did go up to the orangery at Blickling, not much inside but did take a picture, a statue of some old geezer (probly famous!) with a monkey mask on his head and a few probly tender plants around the walls.
Thanks Sandra, and Lincslass you will have to go there next summer..no excuses! lol!

Sticki, I was only 10 miles from Droitwich on Sunday..saw a sign but was driving so couldnt take a picture. After our lunch at the Swan at Birlingham, so praps just as well I didnt lol!
Bampy that sounds wonderful - actually took a picture of the lake from the temple facing the back of the house. Now when I see it I will always imagine you sat on a blanket, toasting the musicians with a mug of tea!
Yes Shirley, the terrace at the side of the house was inspired (besides being great borders there..the white one in partikler) cos it gives a lovely soft view of the garden.
All I can say Sheilar is I wish it was mine until I need to clip the hedges, topiary and dig the borders!

Beautiful...

How wonderful and those borders, edges and hedges so neat! That bench looked inviting. Thanks Tet.

Thing is Tet, if you can afford a house and garden that size, you can afford a whole team of gardeners - maybe when I win a few million on the lottery;o)

3 Oct, 2011

That should buy you a few square metres lol! Better make it the Euro millions on a HUGE week! Like six time rollover

Love the formality of this garden, so inspiring, thanks for all your tours this year, have never seen so many beautiful gardens.

YooHoo Tet! You didn't see me there in the crowds . . . no worries, I'm used to being ignored. :))) Lovely blog, and were there any carved stone memorials??

4 Oct, 2011

Cant remember Sheilabub. But if I missed you and Amy Im sorry..Amy I wouldnt know you from Eve and Sheila, you disappeared in a puff of smoke at Spritz's, I barely managed to say "hello" and there you were...Gone!

4 Oct, 2011

I'm so sorry Tet - the explanation is that I have this maddening condition called Chronic Fatigue . . . I will NOT say that I have ME as I am so lucky to pretty much lead a normal life, and am able to do most of what I want by pacing myself. I say "maddening" because I LOVE conversation, and yet talking is one of the things which can completely exhaust me, and make me feel VERY short of breath. By the time you and I were introduced at Spritz's, my strength and stamina were failing. I very much hope to meet you again one day, so that I can talk to you and no-one else!

Lovely blog Margo, you are so lucky to be able to visit these amazing places.

4 Oct, 2011

You'll be lucky to get a word in edgeways Sheila lol! But I do sympathise. Ive had experience with ME so have an idea ..I have a limit to what I can do, but sure my OH thinks it might be called malingering LOL! Little does he know...Mind you looking back at all my blogs, I really cant believe I did all that..
Val, we are very lucky and Im grateful that I can still drive distances tho I have to take short breaks every couple of hours (fag breaks I call them!) but insist its cos I get stiff.
We normally have at least one spare seat in the car, so you are welcome to a day trip at any time we go ..you will have to close your ears as I swear at OH's lousy map reading tho.

4 Oct, 2011

How kind Margo, thank you might take you up on that.
Swearing, fags an' all, I don't mind !

5 Oct, 2011

I should have realised it was Norfolk Tet..as you have shown us different parts you visited .having one of my 'duh' moments !Lol.Thank you,anyway..:o)
