WELLS NEXT THE SEA

While on holiday in Norfolk we visited this lovely little place briefly..shouldve been longer really. Still enough time to capture these beautiful colours of sea, sand and sky. Those of your Norfolkians will doubtless be aware of the charms of this little town…but well worth a visit if you find yourself nearby.

If you are lucky you may see seals as there is a colony nearby.

Have visited Norfolk but not been here, looks delightful, another beautiful set of photos Tet...so very quiet too.

10 Oct, 2011

Well to be truthful I think the impending downpour (which was horrendous!) put most people firmly in the town...we just managed to miss the rain.

10 Oct, 2011

these are fabulous pictures tet!
lovely light and sky.

10 Oct, 2011

The colours were totally stunning..pictures not good enough really...the thunderous sky just seemed to highlight the jewel colours of sand and sea...just like jade set in a gold necklace..It was one of the most beautiful memories of Norfolk I have.

10 Oct, 2011

a beautiful memory of anywhere!! i can see the jewel colours, its fabulous

10 Oct, 2011

Its actually quite a holiday hotspot for the locals I gather..Im not really surprised. Glad you enjoyed the pics.

10 Oct, 2011

it looks as though its not so far from where my mum was born.

10 Oct, 2011

Right on the Wash. I always thought it was a dull and miserable looking place with a name like that, how wrong can you be??

10 Oct, 2011

king john's treasure is buried there isnt it??

10 Oct, 2011

thats probly why the sand and sea are so beautiful, the treasure melted and coloured the place!

10 Oct, 2011

Aaaahhhh! The romantic poet Tet has returned!

What a lovely idea!

10 Oct, 2011

Lovely brooding sky! Norfolk is a mine of little gems like this.

11 Oct, 2011

Anyone thinking of swimming in the sea there should be aware that the river in the centre, that can be seen on one of these pictures, is very dangerous when the tide is coming in or going out.

11 Oct, 2011

Lovely pictures Tet,

11 Oct, 2011

we visit 2 or 3 times a year, crabbing with lines off the wharf since the kids where little, magic.
Youve certainly captured its essence Tety & it's a must to get a tub of seafood from the vendor in the carpark on the wharf.
Those narrow but delightful roads leading in & out Wells take you through some special quiet little villages dont they? It has something quite rare Im sure you'll agree.

11 Oct, 2011

Have you been to Watlington, just a few miles south of Kings Lynn either of you?

11 Oct, 2011

We had some seafood Bampy, my friend had jellied eels..NOT my favourite food, but the shrimps and crab were good. And yes we motored through the little villages and stopped on the way at a Fish & Chip place all by itself..flying the Scottish flag! Great F&C!
No Sticki, missed it because we were trying to get to the middle of Castle Rising village after visiting the Castle. Eventually got there but then ran out of time for the rest lol!

11 Oct, 2011

its only tiny, i dont think there is much there at all. its where my mum was born!!!

11 Oct, 2011

Its lovely around there, been many a time, it looks very stormy on some pics, you were lucky to not get caught out.
Great photo`s Tetra...

The skies in Norfolk are called the 'Big Blue Skies' Wells is a lovely little place especially in the winter there's nothing we like more than a walk through the pine trees coming out at the top end with the sea in front and the sun setting, the colours are amazing .
Blakeny is a little further along the coast where you are able to go out to Blakeny point to see the seals , we had a shock this morning in the newspaper it seems that '' they '' whoever 'they ' are , are planning on putting a cordon round these designated areas , Blakeny / Cley and some others along that part of the coast in which case people will no longer be able to visit them it will stop tourism also peoples livelihoods fishing etc. apparently it is so that they can be observed by the wild life folk .. I'm sure there's going to be some kind of fight back going on here ........

11 Oct, 2011

surely they need the money from tourism??? doesnt make sense to me;

i love those 'big skies' suffolk has them too; we may go to live there one day!!!????

Sticki I really wish I could have painted this, might have a go one day when I have the time, tho I doubt I will measure up to you Sandra, we did enjoy our visit.
Bye the way, all you Norfolk bunnies, I actually climbed up to the highest point allowed at Castle Rising and walked all around the earth ramparts..wasnt I brave? (and knacked afterwards lol)

11 Oct, 2011

It looks lovely Tetrarch:)

11 Oct, 2011

OH has been here, he says its lovely, he wants to go back. Im putting this on my favourites, I just love the light in your photos.

11 Oct, 2011

We went on holiday to Norfolk this year Tetrarch and we fell in love with it, especially its coast where we actually saw some seals swimming along the shoreline at Winterton-on-Sea. Your photos are smashing, especially the second one with the angry looking sky, very atmospheric. :o)

Well done for climbing Castle Rising Tet ,have you recovered yet ? the trouble is Tet these people who lay down these rules about our coast line etc never live in these places themselves so they don't care if it upsets peoples lives .
My OH went to a Boarding school near Winterton-on-Sea Labdancer he said there aways use to be snakes in the sand dunes - Yuk !

11 Oct, 2011

These islands always amaze me. We have travelled, like most of us I guess, over a great part of it. I still find it hard to believe that there are 65 million people, dozens of concrete jungles, but so much beauty, variety and history.
The only 3 things I can think of that we dont have (thank goodness)..an active volcano, a desert, and a monsoon season! I often find myself thinking thank goodness I was born British.

11 Oct, 2011

I often think that Tet ! it's a shame they can't get it organised properly bring the Great back into it .........

11 Oct, 2011

Yup, glad to be British AND have a temperate climate! But stop wishing you could paint Tet . . . you're an artist with the camera . . . really beautiful photos. Thanks so much for showing us. :))

11 Oct, 2011

For desert read beach, or possibly M25 - takes as long to get across it and not an oasis in sight
For volcano read hills, mountains, November 5th
For monsoon read British summer

There you are we have it all!

11 Oct, 2011

Fantastic photos!!

11 Oct, 2011

I used to tip the kids off the edge of Castle Rising earth ramparts Tety & watch them roll all the way down ( steep are'nt they ) ahhhhh !! the fun we had LOL :-)) they insisted on this game btw !!

12 Oct, 2011

Goodness, those were the days when we had rubber bones..done a few of those rolls elsewhere many, many moons ago lol!

LOL I remember those days and leap frogging our knees buckling under us all the way down .. My knee still hurts .. :o) Castle acre is our grandchildrens favourite near Swaffham , you must visit there next time when in Norfolk .....

12 Oct, 2011

Put it on my list Amy! Thank you.

12 Oct, 2011

I used to gig at a pub in Magdelan right next to Watlington Sticki, small world as they say !

12 Oct, 2011

Bampy, is there anything you HAVEN'T done?? ..No..dont answer that...or if you do be very careful..........lol!

12 Oct, 2011

how strange is that!!!! mind you i cannot imagine my mum at a gig so i very much doubt she would have been there and anyway you are too young ~ she moved from there a very long time ago.

12 Oct, 2011

it was a one night only Sticki, nice crowd drunk n loud !!
---------------------------------------------
Insatiable thirst for knowledge Tety! the whole family through the generations are creative/musical/inventive etc etc
I cant sing & I cannot do maths, married a maths teacher & I write songs & play guitar, hmmmm??? must try harder ;-))

14 Oct, 2011

You must try Gilbert & Sullivan Bampy, more saying than singing...and totally hilarious! Music is another form of mathematics, so you are a specialist in your field lol!

14 Oct, 2011

takes a deep breath - - -Behold the Lord high executioner, a personage of noble rank & title - - - - - - - - - - -tum tee tum tee tum ( forgot next bit)

taken to the county jail,
on a set of curios stances,
liberated then on bail,
on one's own recognances,
did you ever hear such a tale?
wafted by a favouring gale - - -& I need to re-think a few years back to school music classes ( of which I hated ) to remember this G & B stuff Tety, so, yep done that already !!
I might pop some stuff on youtube, working on a song I started years ago which seems to have become abit auto-biographical over the years by sheer de-fault.

14 Oct, 2011

yes please put it on ~ would love to see it

i bet one of you could come up with a modern version of the 'lord high executioner's list'!!!??

14 Oct, 2011

Tetrarch, I know Wells very well, and live near Watlington Stickitoffee. Norfolk is a wonderful county. My son has a friend in Magdalen too. Good photos Tetrarch.

14 Oct, 2011

oh thank you heather ~ thats really interesting ~ am i right its just very small? out in the countryside.

14 Oct, 2011

Thanks Heather. We had a cracking week there, and couldve stayed longer. if only...

14 Oct, 2011

Stickitoffee, it is quite small, but Watlington is on the Fen Line from Kings Lynn to Kings Cross so it has grown since your mother lived there. I live south of Downham Market, and the hairdresser I use, comes from Watlington. It has grown around the railway line, so luckily misses the traffic on the A10 which well and truly bypasses it. A bridge crosses the Great Ouse at Watlington which goes to Wiggenhall St Mary Magdalen. I love that name. Watlington is still a very pleasant village.

15 Oct, 2011

thank you again Heather!!
Mum used to talk about Downham Market and Kings Lynn, she met the Queen once ~ just walking through the Sandringham grounds ~ I think that was before security guards!!!

I know the A10 because my youngest used to live in Ely ~ lovely place also.

15 Oct, 2011

Wells is awesome really love the place - we are going there next year on holiday :))) I love the thundery sky photos!!!!
