PLANTS WITH MATCHING COLOURS - PURPLES

My “blue” border at the moment is most definitely purple but the colour matches are incredibly close, and all within the correct shade band.
Because photographs dont always (well mine at least) capture the correct colour, I thought I would list them here with a picture of each showing near as poss the colours they are.
Fuchsia Delta’s Sarah

Penstemon “Bodnant”

This Aster N.Belg. is a perfect match but I cant find the name tag! Sorry about that, but someone might know.

Rose Waltz Time – Climber and repeat flowering

Rose Special Event – an HT I think. The bud shows pink but when the flower opens, it is a paler version of all these “purples”

Iris Rosalie Figge – This is a “must” for if you place in the border where it can get lots of sun, it will bloom in June and again late September. This is a shade darker of the same “purple”

Geranium Crystal Lake

Phlox Pan. Laura (also Nicki, but dont have a pic)

Erysimum Bowles Mauve – The sun caught this, but it really blends perfectly.

Three others that also blend extremely well are
Verbascum Violetta
Clematis Beauty of Worcester
Lobelia Fan Blue.
(I dont have pics and they have just finished flowering grrr! memory like a sieve, forgot to take them)
Its hard sometimes to hold colours when you are out buying a certain plant for a certain place, so I thought this might come in handy. And there are a variety of blooming times to keep the colour in your border at differing times of the year.

You're right tet. it will come in handy, like listing your plants on your profile is handy too it acts as an aide memoire! All shades of purple are my favourite.

Lovely plants, lovely colours.

Thanks girls, Grandmage, Ive often longed for a book that lists the flowers available in "toning shades of".. with details of growth, habit, period of flowering, soil etc. showing pictures of each plant. I'd buy it!

Perhaps I can persuade a few of you to find half a dozen flowers in your garden that are the same colour or toning shade of that colour and post them. We could have a section on GoY with a little circles of the colour pallette so we can refer to these blogs.

I have seen one, might even have one, not sure where though Lol!!! But same colours in different shades are lovely. You will have to suggest the colour theme to the boys!

Lovely pictures Tetrarch, yes wonder why no ones ever thought of producing a book like that, I'd buy it too:-), nothing more annoying than planting a plant to find it doesn't quite match.

Purples and blues such royal colours I always think.

Quite lovely Tetra, all my favourite shades, there is a book which does show you how to use colour in the way you want, I have borrowed it from the library twice in the past few years, do you think I can remember the name? it is so annoying, it will come to me......will let you know when it does lol
I like your idea re posting pics of plants with same or similar colours.

Very kind Sheilabub, now its your turn..and DD you can start with Inca Ice and Lily Zulu! Spritz could come up with hundreds I daresay, she's a whizz at this sort of thing.

Its amazing how much you have achieved so far DD..wears me out just looking at the pics!! But I reckon its a huge improvement and, I would hope, by the time you need to paint it again, you can hack the shrubs back to get to it....or..of course..you might have changed it again by then LOL!

OK Tet - have obeyed, and taken the camera round the garden, so be prepared for some amateurish pink pics!

A lovely selection Tet , I love the P. Bodnant it's one that I shall def. be looking out for :o))

It was only a small plant when I bought it in late summer and it hasnt stopped flowering! Im much impressed with it. It has a lovely two toned purple colour, very soft, and looks velvety.
If you have any good colour matches and the names of plants to go with it dont forget to do a blog on it Amy. We can at least save to favs and when we are looking for matches there will be some tried and tested ones to choose from.
