I apologise for putting this as a blog as it is only a series of photos.
At this time of year there are many fungi to be seen and these are but a few.

What a great blog Toto - fungii tends to get overlooked but I love it - in the right place, like here. Is it canker on the last two shots and is there a little face poking out of the hole in the tree trunk?

I thought that as well Dawnsaunt.

Could it be a little wren Skillen? We'll have to wait and see.

I think that 'fungi' is a horrible word. How could it possibly convey the beauty that you have just shown us ? Thankyou Toto.

What a great blog! All different, so many shapes and sizes. Do you know theur names, please, Toto - or is that too much to ask?

I thought the first photo was an egg too and I'm curious about the little face in the hole! Lovely set of photos, Toto, such a variety. In photo No 6 it looks like an acorn stuck in the wood or is it a mushroom just emerging? Fascinating stuff :)

Wonderful blog such variety and lovely colouring in the photos the patterns they all make growing along side one another, the first plant on the earth was a shroom and we have all these in the English country garden wonderful. Yes Dawn I could see a little critter in the hole of the tree.

Hi Marie whats up then.
11 Nov, 2009
Thank you all for your encouraging comments. The first one is a puffball and those growing on the trees are collectively known as Bracket Fungi as for the others I'll try to look them up a bit later when I get back from work as I don't know their names at present. There are many more around at the moment and I have been picking some at work that I do know like the field mushrooms, the puffballs and the parasoles and having them with my meals. The parasoles in, inparticular are delicious.
Please remember that if you take mushrooms please ct them and not pull them out of the ground.

There was a patch in my last garden that regularly produced Stinkhorn fungus and you always new they were out, because you would smell them before you saw them. My wife hated them, I thought they were great !!!

Yet again, thank you all. I never expected such wonderful comments for a blog that is not a blog and I'm sure boring to most. I did have muddy knees for some of these pics. I do like the look of the Stink horn even if it is a little phallic but please don't try eating one.
