Yes, we got hit hard with a downy mildew that infects impatiens and the commercial growers of the plant got hit by this like a ton of bricks. There were none to be had where I live for the last two years. This went from a sporadic problem in a few commercial greenhouses to a widespread problem in North America for the first time in history. Thanks! Your blog reminded me of this problem. Impatiens is a hot selling plant where I live, very popular when it was available.

It doesn't sound good. Swansea isn't very far from here, so I hope the spores don't spread. I have many Aquilegias self seeding all around the garden. It would be terrible to loose them :o(

Thanks, Waddy. My Aquilegias are not even showing growth yet, but will be on the watch when they do.

Thanks, I am very fond of ours and didn't know about this.

its not a new problem and in most years it isn't a real problem. there are many resistant individuals and they are such prolific seeders I don't think we will ever get rid of them all.

I wasn't aware of this disease before reading the article on another social network. I'm just glad I was able to remind some of you about it and to inform others. :)

Thanks Waddy. I've seen mildew on Aquiligias before, so thanks for the reminder to look out for it. No sign of any growth on mine yet, but it has been so cold all of Jan and this month too.
