Some of you may have seen my question regarding plants to deter the pesky Wood Pigeons…this is my latest effort. Just hope it works.
I’ve no idea what the conifer is called, but it’s nice and prickly so….

Can pigeons smell, Amy?
So do I Hywel.

I don't know Julia but it works for Vampires and you've got the cross Lol ... on a serious note we often plant garlic bulbs next to roses to keep black fly off ....

Hope it works for you. Luckly we don't get many in our garden and the ones that do, get either chased by the cat or dogs.

Do you eat the garlic Amy or just let it rot?
Jen may I borrow a cat? I haven't got room for one of your lovely dogs.

Lol Waddy, I would but think the dogs would miss her too much, and so would I :-).

We usually leave them to rot Julia ... but quite often because they produce bulbs they send up new plants the next year ...

Thanks for the tip Amy, I'll try that.

Have you noticed a lack of Pigeons over the past couple of days Waddy? Last night we saw a pair of Crows pecking away at a Clematis tangutica ... stripping 6" pieces off it at a time. I bet they're the same ones who kept pulling the petals off the Pinks ... daft birds!

Just thought, knowing that you like roses and wanting something a bit evil, What about the Magic Carpet rose. Thought after I responed to your comment on my broken rose bush. They can be pruned, saying pruned, I seem to remember instructions that came with them, that you take a garden sheers to them and just lop across them, so they don't have to get too wide if you don't want them to.

Yes Shirley, they do seem to be visiting less...or maybe I'm just wishful thinking. Your Crows sound very strange :0)

Thanks Jen, I took a look at the Magic Carpet but I don't think it's quite what I'm looking for, but thanks for thinking of me. I have decided on another strategy...new blog to follow soon :-)

Looks like Juniper to me and it certainly is prickly. It brings me out in a very stinging rash if it touches my bare skin. Our woodpigeons honoured us with a successful nest in our large hawthorn, so we are breeding them! The previous nest was a mess that showered the garden with sticks. A cat got the squab as it left the nest. So a tribe of cats might do the trick. I had to bury it. They are a nuisance.

I don't mind the pigeons as they clear up the dropped seeds from the bird-feeder which keeps rats at bay but I did object when one decided to pull all the blossom of my flowering cherry.
