At the weekend my OH and myself, along with a couple of friends visited Tewkesbury to see the re-enactment of the Battle of Tewkesbury, in the War of the Roses. I though you might like to see a couple of the pics I took of the parade etc. You might want to get a cuppa before you start…

What a coincidence. At school where I work we are doing this in History. Do they do it every year? Might suggest a trip out.....

That looks like a lot of fun Waddy! Easy to see which were the baddies... Did they have a real battle after the procession?

Really good , Waddy . The weather looks perfect for it too .
Love that copper beech .

Amsteram and Steragram; Yes, the baddies are all easy to spot, although I expect it depends which side you're on, who they are lol! They re-enact the battle on both days and the beheading at the Abbey. All very authentic. Unfortunately I left my camera in the hotel for that...silly me. Google Tewkesbury Battle Amsterdam, well worth a school trip I would have thought.

Driad; It was in fact VERY hot...the Beech is in the Abbey grounds. If you look carefully on the right you can see one of our party stood next to it.

Love this sort of thing, really into history so will have to look it up. Looks like there was lots to see. The Beech is very impressive.

An interesting blog. I have visited Tewksbury & the field where the battle took place, also the Abbey. It's a very nice town.

It's more a thing my daughter and I would do, hubby not into history where we love it. Will talk to her about it. :-).

Super pictures Waddy, what a pageant! Involving everyone including the children, someone does a lot of planning. Super pictures, the buildings are lovely and the tree of course.

Feverfew; It certainly is. I liken it to a cross over between York and Chester.

Re-enactment: Exciting stuff not without dangers.

Daughter's BIL was killed re-enacting a jousting battle for a Tony Robinson programme. At his funeral people from all over the country turned up in their costumes: Viking, Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Greek etc. Spectacular!

It was a whole weekend GF.

Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that Eirlys. I must say many of the weapons used in the re-enactment looked highly dangerous as they were totally authentic and of course were meant to maim or kill.
