Did you see it?

I mean Landscape Man. What an inspirational programme – gardening on a grand scale and at its best. I didn’t know who the subject was going to be until it started and I turned to OH and said ’It’s HIM, you know – er, Keith Whatisname – you know – Head Gardener at that garden in Devon – er – Keith er – Garden House – Keith Wiley. I’m such a fan of what he did at the Garden House and didn’t even realise he had left to start his own garden. That’s another one on the list – AT THE TOP!

Channel 4 this evening (Thursday) at 8pm
I must admit I went to The Garden House many years ago and although I liked the garden, it was full of weeds

Maybe I could see it on the iplay ( or whatever it's called ) I never think of puting the tv on these days. Haven't got time to waste on the trash they show. I hope this series is interesting if I ever do remember to watch it lol.

I saw it and the area they were dealing with was huge! Good programme with a "proper" gardener and the camera work was quite good too (not all over the place like The Edible Gardener.

i missed it too forgot it was on but i agree with you GS about the edible gardener its a waste of time "George grows rhubarb on his allotment to give away as he doesnt like it"...Alys mentions lots of plants but doesnt show you much and she BUYS plants from car boot sales..supposed to be a gardener oh i could go on and on but i have had my moan for the day lol...

Yes saw it Wagger and found it very sad . Clearly a man with vision skill and and love of gardening but absolutely no business acumen.Reminded me of an enthusiastic diy er who tackles the bits of their home they can manage and moves from room to room , never quite finishing before moving to the next.
Felt presenter didnt give much direction helping with the over ambitious pond not the answer , needed more support.
Typified by his meagre budget spent in one area when perhaps he should have started small and built up areas as his plant sales and visitors increased.
His wife produced some great art work and between them deserve success.
Not always about skills but who you know and connections to those with influence. Why Chelsea Flower show leaves me cold as nothing to do with gardening skills more about who you know and how much you can spend to gain influence.
Future episodes will undoubtedly see presenter more heavily involved with plans and suggestions when he visits places whereby money no object .

Totally with you, Bonkers. We wondered why the presenter was there at all! A voive-over would have done the job equally well! Sad that the man with all those dreams and visions couldn't finish the job - as you say - no business acumen - a dream too far.

There was an article by Stephen Lacey in the Telegraph in July 2009 which makes very interesting reading - it's at : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/gardenstovisit/5887019/Garden-to-visit-Keith-Wileys-Wildside-Nursery.html
and he says already it's a tour de force!
Looking at other articles it appears far more advanced than we saw on this programme - and he now has planning permission for a proper house.
