Oh no. I hope this isnt going to be a big problem for you Wagger. I havent seen any yet fingers crossed.

I squished one today, two yesterday. So far my running total is 7.
I also look under the leafs I have found them on for eggs. These are tiny little red eggs. If found just rub off with your finger, before the grow into grubs that cover themselves in excrement to look like bird poo.
I live in Hampshire by the way if we are looking at where they are in the country.

they have got to east yorkshire but so far so good.

They're disgusting, aren't they, Trees? I missed eggs on one stem last year and it was smothered in a couple of days - Yeugh!!!!!

I think I mentioned that I've found several on the soil in the border - no lilies there, so what are they doing up there? Looking for lilies? Emerging from winter sleep? What? I shall keep looking and checking my pots of lilies, though! YUK!

I was hoping this winter had clobbered a lot of them as I haven't seen any on my fritillarias which is where they normally start here.

These survived, then...Grrrrrrr......

29 Apr, 2010

Not for long, though, lol.

29 Apr, 2010

Mine did - they 'flipped over' and I couldn't find them. :-(((

29 Apr, 2010

Oh crikey - full border alert then! Elephant gun at the ready!

29 Apr, 2010

So far so good here but am always on the alert---- I hate them nearly as much as the evil weevil.

29 Apr, 2010

They hear me coming, I do know that! They drop off the lily leaves onto the compost (upside down, of course...). I've learned how to get round it - I pick up each pot one by one, and put it in the wheelbarrow. I shake off the ones on the compost and inspect the leaves as well. I have a stone - and SQUISH!

I don't grow lilies in the soil any more. I can put a potful into the border when they're in flower! ;-)))))

Horrible critters! :-((((

29 Apr, 2010

I couldn't do it, I love insects.

29 Apr, 2010

Not this one, Floweryapron - it wrecks the lilies - eats them completely. I don't think you'd like it, except for its bright colour!

Welcome to GOY, by the way. :-)

Thanks!
No, I cannae hurt them. I know these things must be done, I know that, in the real world, but I have always loved the insect nation, they are so beautiful, like little clockwork toys with a tiny manic brain cell.
There's more of them than us you know...

29 Apr, 2010

Thanks. I usually but the bulbs because I like to see them grow.

They really are breeding fast, and I gather, moving up the UK to the North, as well. :-((( You're so right, Genuis, it's very lucky that they 'are' red. Imagine if they were green! YIKES!!
