You don't have to be a fan of golf!

The U.S Masters is on television once again.

I have been sitting in awe and wonder at the immaculately manicured course in Augusta, Georgia.

There are azaleas galore, delicate shadows across the fairway and gentle reflections in the water. Even the spectators seem to be dressed to blend in with their surroundings!

It is so restful and comforting to see the beauty all around the players and you really don’t have to be a fan of golf……….but I guess it helps!!!

Last day tomorrow!

Well tended grass is a beauty to behold.

I must have a look then. I avoid sport on tv usually. isn't Golf a good walk spoiled?? :p

Oh dear !! ..I'm afraid nothing would entice me to watch sport of any kind so I'll take your word about the beauty, you have described it nicely though, lol...

I too usually avoid any sport, while OH watches I read GOY!
The exception to this is to watch the Derby and the Boat Race, and the Masters! It's another sport (like cricket) that you can watch and doze, wake not having missed much! But the Masters is wonderful, such lovely views, wonderful waterways and the Azaleas and Dogwoods are stunning.

I'll also take your word for it,Chris..OH doesn't watch/like Golf either. glad you are enjoying the scenery though..:o) x

I knew when I wrote this that I would get a mixed reaction!!!
It makes the responses all the more interesting though!!
I am not good at sports but do enjoy watching certain 'big' events!
Thanks to all of you .....the golf begins at 2pm by the way!!!

I have to suffer golf quite often. I like the Ryder cup very much and get very 'involved' in it. I am a fan of Ian Poulter and Justin Rose...they are cracking lads! Anyway, I digress...I too enjoy seeing Augusta every year. I don't much care for the mass azalea planting and the manicured grass, and I'd hate to see it all the time...a bit Disney for my tastes...but I can't resist seeing it at this time of year, when we are still waiting for a little bit of warmth, to see everything so full on and bursting forth is a treat!

I think it was Bob Bubka on the radio who was saying if there's stormy weather & the azaleas, etc. look less than perfect there's a huge gardening crew that comes in at night, lifts it all out & replaces it by morning

I do love watching the Masters, especially some of the players who have been a part of it for years (like Padraig Harrington). But this evenings broadcast will be our first chance to watch this year ... looking forward to it. I always feel for them when the ball drops into the water!

No gardening for a few of us then today!!

I think the storms might be on the way over there. It is a bitterly cold day here.

Rick is watching the golf as I am writing this. Yes, I agree that everything is so pristine !
I can watch it for a while and then I am itching to get out in the garden ! Mind you ..it's f.f.freezing out there !!

Yes love watching the masters in sunny climes but also enjoy when it’s in this country especially up in Scotland .

Nice to know that so many of us are tucked up safely indoors on such a cold, miserable day!!
xx
Karen - my mum was convinced that Justin Rose was a distant relation of hers but never managed to find out more! I think it was just wishful thinking on her part !!!

Fabulous ending.....

Oh dear, I didn't even know it was on...Don't you think golf is rather like giant marbles made difficult by using a stick?
Sounds as though this was worth watching for the azaleas though!

Well ladies, and Darren8 '''I watched 'The Greatest Showman'once again, and much prefer Hugh Jackman to Tiger Woods ! ...each to their own ha ha ..

Ever notice that there are few complaints about the amount of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and poison baits used on golf courses to make them picture perfect?

You see, I knew I'd started something?!

15 Apr, 2019

Ha ha..you certainly did ! xx

Just to even things out I have been a skeet shooter for 50 years. I am guilty of probably sprinkling over a ton of lead shot over the fertile earth.:( but, having fun is fun:)

Apologies for joining this debate very late, Wildrose, but I have only just spotted it. 'Amen Corner' is defintely a favourite with me. Azaleas, water features, the lot. I believe Augusta buy tonnes of pine straw, each year, at great expense to topdress round the conifers so that it looks neat and tidy.

Living near pine trees, we get trugfuls each autumn for free. Great for mulching Rhodies and 'acid lovers' .. (plants that is). Added bonus is ...... I'm a keen golfer too!

Thanks Alan for joining in! You made it in plenty of time before the British Open starts!!
My parents lived in Formby which was quite close to Royal Birkdale Golf course. They also lived close to pine woods and lovely red squirrels.

18 Jun, 2019

Hi Wildrose,
I have not had the pleasure of playing Birkdale, but have been lucky enough to play Hillside several times.
My wife and I went to Formby on a mission to see a red squirrel for the very first time... But no such luck. We get invaded by the horrible grey cousins from the US that empty all our bird feeders.
