Halloween and the garden looks murky.

The Autumn colours are trying hard to cheer up our garden on this dull and murky day!
Everything is damp and dripping, grey and gloomy!

Very autumnal colours there - and the lanterns are really artistic - beautiful!

Happy Halloween to you too,Chris..and don't eat all those sweets you said you were going to put out for the children ,will you ? ha ha,I think all our gardens are starting to look Autumnal now,but in a nice subtle sort of way..I also love your very pretty Lantern..I haven't seen one like that before..x

Your hedge is especially beautiful and you have loads of lovely golden hues. I went out today and raked up leaves and cut herbaceous stuff back. Its getting to the mucky muddy time of year now. The next month will be the worst...loads to do and no daylight to do it in! It was horribly grey here today, but weโ€™ve had about five beautiful days in a row, so I canโ€™t complain. :)

Lots of lovely autumnal colour, Wildrose. Some great close ups, very effective.
Loving the spooky lantern too!

Some lovely autumnal colours Chris, and plenty of leaves still hanging on!

And a Happy spooky Halloween to you too, some beautiful Autumn colour in your garden.......

Thanks everybody, I do love the colours of autumn.

The little lantern was bought last year from Waitrose I think.

ALL sweets were left out for the village children who always come round together in a group! However, I have to own up to helping myself to one mini packet of chocolate buttons - as dear Bloomer guessed I would!!!

Forgot to say your red berries are fantastic!

No Halloween children here tonight - just as well! Last year I was well prepared and nobody came so this year I didn't buy any. Realised that if I don't put the lights on at the end of the drive its probably too dark to risk coming down it on a ghosty night!

I'm sure you deserved those Chocolate buttons, for being kind enough to let the children help themselves,Chris. We have had hardly any this year, only 3 families, plus Alfie..I might have to have the odd pack myself :o)It seems the new trend around here,is to have organised events,at homes, and the local Garden Centre, which are raising money for Charities..A much better idea for families,to attend.

A funny thing happened here. I realised I had put in 2 photos of the beech hedge by mistake so I deleted one of them. However another photo has now been repeated in its place so I am leaving well alone!!

Hello Chris ! I like the lantern but not the spider !! You seem to have plenty of colour in your garden still even if I do have a crick in my neck looking at them ! Hahaa!
I don't know why but some of my photos do that even if they are the right way round on the laptop. I love the red berries ! What tree is it?
We haven't had quite as much rain as you and dash out and do a bit when its dry !
I will write soon. xxx

Oh dear Rose, are some of the photos the wrong way up? Sorry about that.
The red berries are on a weeping cotoneaster by our pond. The red is SO RED it almost doesn't look real to me!!

Yes,I forgot to mention Chris, most are sideways on my laptop too,so I've got the same crick as Rose ha ha..xx

Oh dear, I wonder why? Sorry you had a struggle to see them but thanks for having a go!

I have that weeping cottoneaster too Chris, but its in a big pot and am now wondering whether to plant it in the garden .

I don't think your garden looks gloomy at all, even if it is raining. It is very colourful and has a cosy feel.

The photos are horizontal for me too but I turned the computer up on it's side so that I could see them better :)

Whoops, I think I know what I did wrong Hywel! Glad you liked the photos sideways-on!
Me and technology - not a match made in heaven!

I'm the same - hopeless and no patience with gadgets.
I could see your photos all right when I put the computer on it's side :)

Stunning colours, the garden looks lovely, and itโ€™s nice to see a scattering of leaves on the lawn, I like to leave them on for a while just to enjoy the colours, today I had to rake up all the leaves that had fallen from a large cercis in a costumers garden, they looked so pretty on the ground, but I had to rake them up and put them in the wheelie bin, ouch, the first picture is that a tulip tree?

4 Nov, 2019

Julien, it IS a tulip tree and is getting rather too big now for the place where it was planted. We would be so sad to have to lose it but don't really know what to do. It gives lovely shade in the summer but is becoming overpowering!

Bet you're glad you asked me!!!!

Problem corner!

Donโ€™t worry about losing it, you can hard prune these, did one a few years ago that had been badly damaged by high winds, one part of the tree had a large branch on one side torn off, which made the tree look unbalanced, so once the torn limb had been pruned neatly off I reduced the crown to balance it, the growth was good from all the pruning cuts, this I did in the dormant season, yours has a good shape to it, so you can keep that lovely shape by reducing carefully to keep a nice balanced shape.

Thank you so much for your helpful and very positive advice, much appreciated - and it will be followed ' by him who does the pruning!!!'
