More Daylilies

I didn’t think there would be a lot of action in the daylily fields today, it was supposed to be rainy (probably it has been raining on the other side of the island). But there is a lot open and many of the old favorites like Neighborhood Watcher, which I registered in 2017. It’s the tall one looking around to see what everyone else is doing.
2 One that you see a lot as a parent of the crosses I make is Amber Rhum x Kazoo:
3 There is one that I have been watching for several years, and with a bud count of 18 and in the spider form, I will be registering it this year. The spider ratio on it is 4.56. You take a petal and measure its width without touching it. Then you cut it off at the Y junction at the bottom of the petal and lay it flat, and then measure it. Length divided by width will give you the ratio which must be at least 4.00 to be a spider type. I have gone the easy way in naming most of my daylilies – I use the names of peaks in the Azores. So I will find a nice peak and give this its name:
4 I don’t always go for the biggest. I have been making a lot of the small, under 4" types. They are all DIPs because I don’t have many small TETs. Here is Creative Design x Crystal Blue Persuasion:
5 One of the new large, round TETs at 8" across is (Core Values x Don Herrell) x El Aventura:
6 If you like it when the petals really curve back, here is Frog’s Eye x Whale Tails:
7 Using my favorite applique (that is #2) is (Amber Rhum x Kazoo) x Michigan Nikki. I was trying to put a ruffled edge on it, but it didn’t happen:

When I retired, I needed a hobby and chose hybridizing daylilies. It makes me want to get out of bed in the morning to see what is open today, but isn't an eight hour job.

#3 is now 'Pico Gaspar'! I registered it and "Star of Portugal' this year. It was all approved by the American Hemerocallis/Daylily Society (they have changed their name from AHS to ADS).

labour of love wylie. I love daylilies but confine them to one bed in 'hottish' colours, yellows reds and oranges.
