Wow amazing picture TT,looking at that sky you could be fooled into thinking it was summer:-)

. . . the rose was sleeping when the frost fell. Although still very cold, the sun came out and wakened the rose with it's gentle warmth. Shuddering slightly because of the cold, the rose shook off the frost. On doing so, it re-awakened the new growth hidden under the old. Slowly, slowly, gently, gently, as the seasons changed, the new growth pushed and pushed. The old flower had one more thing left to do - on falling to the ground, accompanied by the leaves, it would provide nourishment for the new growth. And so the cycle continued - another beautiful rose awaiting next years frosts.

It looks almost cacti looking with spikes coming off it - nice picture

I think it was its little frosty 'arms' and 'hands' that caught my imagination, TT :)

9 Dec, 2010

Fab pic. :o)))

10 Dec, 2010

Nice picture Terra. Arthur bell is one of the best roses. We had 16 of them in a hedge and the perfume was wonderful. They seem to be resistance to black spot too, unless I was just lucky. Although every year I placed some fresh compost on the soil under the bushes after cleaning up the litter in the winter.

10 Dec, 2010

Thanks Pip ...
I guess the weather is a little warmer with you. :o)))

Linda... I find that Arthur Bell roses ... including the climber .. do get black spot... so I guess you were lucky... and your clean up/compost routine probably helped a lot. A nice rose for a small garden because of the wonderful scent... :o)

10 Dec, 2010

10 Dec, 2010

11 Dec, 2010

Hello Tt.I've got a few customers whose Roses are looking like this, no doubt. A few weeks ago, they were all still flowering beautifully and it seemed silly to cut them back, but now it's a bit too icy to go and do it!!

13 Dec, 2010

Thanks Balcony...
... I'm pleased you added this to your favourites :o)

Hi Paul... I hope you're well...
Yes... it's difficult to decide when to prune roses... and it must be even harder trying to decide when to trim your customers' roses !

14 Dec, 2010

Well, we've had a very mild day(in comparison with many recently) today, and more mildish weather predicted until weekend so I went and lightly winter trimmed some roses today (climbers and a couple of very tall bush roses) as well as sweeping some leaves up in another garden as snow is now completely gone.

14 Dec, 2010

What a fab photo TT Wish we had frost like that.

15 Dec, 2010
