You Should Have Been Here Yesterday

‘Devonia’ was one of three gardens open under The National Garden Scheme yesterday. Fortunately the weather was kind to us again with sunshine and a light breeze. In a change to previous years, we hired a local community centre to use as a base for parking, teas, and plant sales. While this gave us more room, it meant extra work as everything had to be transported to and from the hall. All three gardens were within a few minute’s stroll.
The path up to the front door
The planting beside the drive. The orange tulips are starting to go over but just about hung on
Another prominent bed in the front garden. This doesn’t usually get going until June so there is bit of ‘cheating’ going on here. I planted several pots of tulips in the autumn. Over the past few weeks, these have been in and out of the greenhouse, in the shade, in the sun – all to get them into flower for the opening. The pots were then stood among the emerging foliage of other plants.
A couple of shots of the bulb garden
Another colourful section. No ‘fiddling’ with the tulips here, they are planted in the soil and bloomed at the ‘right’ time.
Heritage daffodils, growing around an old apple tree
Dwarf rhododendrons putting on a display
As usual, there were questions about some of the plants. The most asked about was this trillium kurabayashii
There wasn’t one for sale, but there were plenty of others to choose from
A last look before going on to the next garden
We had about 90 visitors and raised just over £1000 on the day although there are a few donations still to be added to the total.
And today? Well, I’m off to visit a garden later.

wonderful but like Daylily I am too far away to visit.
the garden looks stunning. and it is not cheating to have plants in pots and move them around. I do this all the time.

Lovely garden and well done. It must have been lots of hard work to get it looking that good. The Trillium is gorgeous and it went on wish list when I saw it last year.
