Open Garden - 25th April 2010

Sunday dawned cool and grey and by 8am, a light rain was falling (contrary to the balmy seventy degrees forecast). Although we desperately needed the rain, it was disappointing that it chose to fall on our Open Garden day.
But by mid morning, the rain fizzled out and the sky brightened. By 2pm, when we opened to visitors, the sun was trying hard to shine and it was pleasantly warm. Last year, nearly 150 punters came through the gates but we didn’t expect so many this time.
This is the front garden the visitors saw first
A shady corner under the flowering cherry beside the house
Into the back garden, and by now the sun was shining
The view down the garden from the house
Another woodland corner with camellias around an old apple tree
And the new foliage garden, starting into growth for the first time
Even the auriculas on the patio added to the floral display
The most asked after plant was this clump of erythroniums
There was definitely a rush in the first hour which slowed as the afternoon progressed. The plant sales table seemed to be emptying too. By 5pm, 163 people had paid to see the two gardens in Bracknell and we raised over £900 from gate money, plant sales, information sheets and cards. With some group visits booked for later in the summer, we will break the £1000 mark this year.
Now for a rest!
PS. Thanks to Pamd who visited with a present for the garden

Congratulations to you Andrew, I love the first picture of the front garden, the flowering cherry is beautiful with the blue sky behind it. Your back garden looks lovely and I'm pleased you had so many 'punters' viewing both gardens. Feet up now, until the next time ! : o ) )
