As most of you know we do not have a greenhouse so most of the tender plants come indoors for the winter……well this year they had to come in a lot sooner because as you all know winter came early!! most of the plants carry on growing, so you can imagine space is getting a problem, so hurry up Spring…..I need to get out of here!!
Not only are they in the garden room, they are in the porch, the bedroom and the sitting room, thank goodness OH is a gardener too.
On the windowsills too.

I'll swop my greenhouse for your lovely garden room! What a lovely space and dual purpose too - and the plants look beautifully healthy with all your (and OH's) cossetting. Not sure I'd want to share my bedroom with them though :)

what a lovely room! if i sit in a pot please could you make room for me?

I know exactly what you mean, my house is the same Dotty. Plants everywhere. Even though I have a greenhouse there is no heat and I daren't leave precious things in there.

lol dotty, i can imagine the frustration for you having them everywhere and not being able to have your space back yet, but at least OH is a gardener, baz would go mad, bad enough having plants in the garden here lol, i love your garden room and all your plants to, iv lost a few plants this year and not happy, bottle brush looks dead even though fleeced, palm dead, cordy dead, and another palm, im gutted :o((

thats very sad sanbaz ~ i think you had a longer cold spell than we did, i have a santolina that is not looking so happy and some others im not sure about.
19 Jan, 2011
it is sad sticki as i love a few tropical looking plants, also my bannana plants look dead to and they were wrapped in the garage, so no more, just sticking to more hardy plants now, hope yours are ok sticki, so disheartning isnt it. off to take some pics now ready for my abstract next tuesday lol

i was really sad when i thought my fatshedera and my fatsia had died but thankfully only the tops were damaged ~ i wrapped them up in fleece after that ~ they are a bit like pets!!
i shall look forward to seeing your abstract pictures ~ got any ideas for it yet?
19 Jan, 2011
They all look good Dd obviously thriving and they do say to have plants in ones home has a calming effect so really with all yours you must be a very serene person really, lol......

Lol Dottydaisy it looks like you full to the brim you could always say you ve became an interior designer with a new look for the carbon foot print.

My goodness, what a fabulous collection! At least "no greenhouse" means that you can enjoy your plants at close quarters (very). What is the floor covering in your garden room Dotty - must be something that doesn't mind being watered??

i like your new icon/avatar sixpence

Thank you Stickitoffee.

Mavis some go in the ground and some stay in their containers, none of them would survive a winter outside.
Gee they do look fairly healthy, but all are susceptible to red spider mite!! which is a pain.
Sticki you would have to bring your own pot lol
San so sorry to hear about the plants you have lost, we lost a very mature BB two years ago, they do need a lot of protection now, have two hardy palms in the garden, just hoping they will make it.
Linc I should be horizontal then......Sixpence....good idea!!
Sheila not the most suitable floor covering, solid wood!! with large rugs ( had no idea we would be storing so many plants, when we had it put down)
Sticki the tips of both our Fatshedera have been caught, the Fatsia not a problem, very tough and exposed to the elements, thank goodness.
19 Jan, 2011
:o)) Glad you like the idea
19 Jan, 2011
i thought fatsia was tough and didnt protect it at first! obviously midlands a bit colder than hampshire.
i will happily bring my own pot DD to have a little rest in your lovely room but i would like to make it clear its a pot not a potty!!! ~ thanks for the offer!!!

Lots of lovely plants though to enjoy in winter while there indoors.

Nice selection there, DD, worthy of saving - but it does drive you mad the longer they're in the house, doesn't it... Even worse is sowing seeds too early and then having to keep those in as well, nightmare.
19 Jan, 2011
Yes Bamboo, you're right. I'm guilty of the early sowing. Have resisted so far this year, but I've a couple of packs of seed that are calling to me every day!
Dotty, I think it looks lovely! I'm still considering moving my furniture out of the conservatory!!
19 Jan, 2011
I'm like you DD. My tender plants are on shelves in my outer hall just inside our storm doors. OH (what does OH mean?) was meant to clear an area for my new greenhouse (not ordered yet), so the hall was the next best place. It does mean all visitors have to climb over the ones on the floor.!! I have just added a Gooseberry bush today. It is getting more dangerous!! lol
19 Jan, 2011
Oooh, spikey!! ;)) .....'other half' Linda!
19 Jan, 2011
Ha ha ha Poor you Dotty.......You have just got to put up with them for a few months yet The price we have to pay for our devotion Im afraid.......Lol
19 Jan, 2011
thought I was looking at my own conservatory there for a moment DD, absolutely identical except for one difference, you can still see abit of floor space in yours!!
And do you know what ? I never learn, there will be frost tender additions this year that will need conservatory space next winter, love it !! ;-))

Looks a bit like the interior of our flat as well! All the windows are stacked two & three layers of pots high, the lowest two being Amaryllis bulbs, those that flowered for the first time last year, the third being African Violets or Christmas Cacti or a Sweet Potato, in our bedroom window!
20 Jan, 2011
how lovely that shows just how much you care I also love your garden room.
22 Jan, 2011
Wow Dotty how lovely. We had a conservatory put up last summer, not long before the delivery of 15 perennials, which as youngsters cant be planted out until spring. Consequently they have spent their time on the conservatory floor and seem to be thriving. Like you i dont have a greenhouse, so now i also have my eye on 2 x 4 tier garden shelving units hubby has seen at B&Q that i can grow my seeds on until they can go out as well. Well, at least the conservatories are being put to good use during the colder months!
22 Jan, 2011
Thanks all, I am so glad we are not the only ones with plants everywhere, thank goodness for garden rooms/conservatories where would we be without them? But it would be nice to put them outside now.!!
24 Jan, 2011
gud job you kept them in there ......... mine froze in the green house !! i did bring 3 in tho
25 Jan, 2011

It is a good job you had somewhere to keep them Dottydaisy2, as it would have been such a shame if you had lost them to the bad weather. They all look nice and healthy are they for pot's and cotainers come the better weather?
