Big Bird Count!

I wonder what went on in your garden?

Photo 5 is a mystery – no trickery involved, that is how it was when I downloaded it. I’ve zoomed in to see if it’s two birds together but I just cannot make it out. Looks a bit like a gremlin head but even the feet seem to be facing the wrong way :)

LOL Gee...entertaining blog ..great photos and captions ! What a stern expression that Jackdaw has in photo 2 ! Love the action shots...number 5 ? Beats me !! Lol

31 Jan, 2010

Thanks everyone! I did get more birds in my garden today other than these few but was disappointed that the goldfinches and long tailed tits didn't put in an appearance while I was counting! Typical!

No special photoshop, Sanbaz, I just use Windows Powerpoint, very simple :)

not heard of that Gee, do we all have that, im on vista here

31 Jan, 2010

That was great :o))
Strange about the strange photo ( sorry that sounds a bit daft, but I didn't know how else to put it lol )

31 Jan, 2010

Very entertaining Gee, he hee. Pic 5 looks like a pigeon with a mouse's body as a head ?!

31 Jan, 2010

You should have Powerpoint, Sanbaz., I have Vista too. Its a programme for creating presentations so practically anything can be downloaded into it.

31 Jan, 2010

You have to remember that Powerpoint is for the intelligencier Gee and not for us more average or in my case less than average mortals.
Loved your blog.

31 Jan, 2010

i will look on my programs, if thats where it is lol cheers Gee
lol toto, think im with you there

31 Jan, 2010

If you can use Picasso, Sanbaz, I don't think you will have any problems with Powerpoint :) I'm pretty average, Toto, remember - I'm the one who took the TV remote out with me instead of my mobile phone not once, but twice !!!

31 Jan, 2010

I don't call your blog 'average', Gee! I think your captions are amazing - and different. Just don't expect me to try to do it, that's all!

Loved your blog and photos - especially the Jackdaw! I can't make out the 'strange' pic either. Very odd - a flying mouse, maybe?lol.

31 Jan, 2010

Oh Spritz please, I think that you misunderstood I didn't mean that Gee's blog was average. Quite the opposite. It is me that I was referring to. I hope that I would never be so rude as to suggest that anyones blog was "average". God knows what rubbish I have published.

31 Jan, 2010

Stop panicking, Toto, I'm sure Spritz was following on to my comment, not yours! Glad you all enjoyed the blog, I had fun doing it - I just wish I knew how that bird changed into a gremlin without me noticing :)

31 Jan, 2010

lol Gee, did your remote ring heheh
mine must be rubbish toto you never comment on them :o(((

Very good Gee, you have some great action shots and I love your captions, my grandson uses powerpoint and makes it look so easy,I watch him and then try it myself but get into a right tiswas, no surprises there tho ,he is after all a far superior 9yr old. LOL..

31 Jan, 2010

This is very good you got a Jackdaw as well.

31 Jan, 2010

13 Jackdaws went on to my bird count today, Mavis :)

Great blog Gee, I love the photos and the captions and put myself firmly in the Sanbaz, toto camp when it comes to doing things like this. I did do the count today though and was really pleased with the results, although I had to photograph a lot of them to check up on their names on the RSPB website. I got eleven different species! Mind you I didn't see a single gremlin all day! ! ! ! :~)))

I find the jackdaws to be very hungry they always take a whole birdcake for themselvesI dont mind though as I like both them and the magpies.

great blog........lovely pics....dont know what your mystery bird is..lol

1 Feb, 2010

Enjoyed your blog and photos as always.

Lovely pictures Gee.
I decided to do birdwatch in my backgarden rather than my front as usual. I couldn't believe it, I sat at the window , pen in hand and all I saw was one greedy woodpigeon who stayed about 10 minutes. After 40 minutes of nothing else, I gace up. Yet a few weeks ago when everywhere was covered in snow and frost , I had one fantastic morning with Long Tailed Tits, even Field fares that only venture into gardens when fields are frozen..and also the usual Blue Tits, Robin, Blackdirds, Sparrows,Starlings and Dunnocks. Yet this weekend ..nothing!
I have seen two huge Magpies in the garden and on next door flat extension roof recently so I suspect that's keeping the smaller birds away.

There's no relying on anyone nowadays, is there :) I expected more in the way of long tailed tits, goldfinches, maybe a little wren but no. At least it was better than last year when I saw nothing! Never mind, there's always next year.

Your Birds got ATTITUDE issues...lol..always love their spunky chat..so cute but so bird of them.
I have Powerpoint, need to take a look at it..I have been enjoying Picasa so much for exporting...works great for blogging too.

2 Feb, 2010

I like the close proximity also that you get in flight photos and I enjoy your captions too. My best guess is that perhaps the distorted look of the bird's face in photo 5 is due to motion; pulling back it's head quickly prior to landing.

2 Feb, 2010

You're probably right, GF, but its legs seem to be the wrong way round in relation to the tail too! It must have been a contortionist :)

3 Feb, 2010

I am not an ornothological leg man so I would not know whether or not the legs are the wrong way around or why for certain. Presumably the bird was changing location and the legs would probably have been the last part to depart and so had still to catch up with the rest of it's body perhaps. I didn't see any of the bird types that appear in your entertaining blog other than the robin. I liked your Jackdaw photo best - I wonder did you feel lucky to have counted 13 of them?

5 Feb, 2010

enjoyed your blog ,good to have a laugh at your comments

6 Feb, 2010

Thanks, GF, I had to laugh at you not being 'an ornothological leg man' :) I hadn't thought about the number 13 but often feel very lucky to have so many different birds come to the garden. The jackdaws are very amusing but very greedy so sometimes I wave my arms about to scare them off - the smaller birds aren't afraid of me :)

Glad you enjoyed it, Khayla.
