Early Summer at Normanby Hall

I’d been thinking that we hadn’t ventured to Normanby since early April, when the Daffs were just finishing and
nothing else seemed to be moving, the Wisterias knocked back by the Winter had hardly any growth showing.

What a treat then yesterday morning to see the Walled Garden full of colour and the Victorian Garden just as beautiful.

The long Walled Garden.

Blue bearded Irises with Thalictrum.

A beautiful, shaggy Dianthus.

Perennial Poppies with Amy’s Sweet Rocket…….:o)

Lemon Lupins and behind, a tall Campanula.

A stunning pink Peony.

Lovely colouring, the pale blue Iris and Johnson’s Blue Geranium.

Not sure of the name of this gorgeous yellow daisy, just coming into flower.

Hydrangea petiolaris, isn’t it a beauty!

Into the Victorian Garden.

A riot of colour, white Peonies, red Valerian and orange Oriental Poppies.

More Sweet Rocket echoing the white of the glasshouse.

Beautiful dark red Sweet Williams and brilliant yellow poppies.

Another striking Dianthus

The Rose arches just coming into bloom.

Hope you’ve enjoyed looking round the gardens, I’ll take some pics of the Rose arches in full bloom next visit….:o))

What a beautiful place Janey, I feel one of your favourite retreats. Some smashing plants there, Im surprised to see Amy's sweet rocket around, they are so lovely, you dont see them often. I think the yellow daisy may be Telekia speciosa, but not sure. Thank you for the blog, I enjoyed it very much.

DA may be right. I thought it was Inula, but it's a bit early for that yet I think.

I love the clashing colours in pic. of red valerian and orange poppies, and that is a lovely pale blue Iris too. What a lot of flower.....amazing to see so much flower so early in the year. Lovely!

Thank you Coshad!

Yes Dawn, it is, we're very lucky to be only minutes away, there's lots going on in the Summer too, so a great Treat as well as retreat....:o))

Good, pleased you enjoyed it Val.

Thanks Bloomer, the Sweet Rocket here is mainly white, such a beautiful scent to it too, yes root out those seeds!

Thanks Dawn and Karen, I'll google it and see which it is, I loved the shaggy strong flowers. Those colours really are alive aren't they....with the white just to cool them a bit, it works well.....

This is just up the road Carole, yet further on than my little garden, can't wait to see some vivid colour soon too....:o)

Janey...lovely pics, very inspiring. Would love to get hold of some of that Sweet Rocket too...but it's the contrast of colours that are stunning...an acquired skill in planting I guess that comes with practice

i love normanby hall, the gardens are an inspiration. the council have done a brilliant job in reverting the walled garden back to the victorian state. it was lido in the 50/60's

Lovely pics on here, Janey, especially love those 'shaggy' Dianthus. Something else for me to investigate . . . .

Those Dianthus are spectacular aren't they, I've not seen them before...will have to remember later and pinch some seeds....:o)
You're right there Seaburn, I used to take the kids to the Lido in the 70s, they do a fantastic job there don't they.

bit late for my pennyworth of comment but had to tell you how much i liked your stunning photography.
you lured me in Janey with your swallowtail aviar in Lincs!
dont know which one i liked best the dark red Sweet Williams and brilliant yellow poppies or the pale blue Iris and Johnson’s Blue Geranium.
or any of the others for that matter...
