August Pinks

I remember my last blog when the weather had been constant rain, my garden seemed to have sun of it’s own with so many yellow flowering plants, that was early July.
Now we’re into August and the main flowering colour is pink, so if that’s the colour you like, here are some pics of what’s flowering here today.

The wall baskets are planted with different pink Surfinias
and below tubs of Fuchsias, even though this is a shady site, they’re very happy here.

The pale salmon pink Fuchsia on the left is Southgate, the standard which Ian has grown this year is Orange Crush, though it does look dark pink underneath. It does have three stems which have been plaited together. Hopefully next summer it will have matured a lot.

Looking out of the kitchen window, more Surfinias, or Petunias, I find myself dead-heading them every day and they are so sticky!

There they all are outside the window, there’s also a pink pelargonium in the window trough. The lovely dark Dahlia is a gift from Amy, Bishop of Llandaff, and after a good pruning by the snails is budding up again…:o)

Bright Cosmos….I’ve two large pots of these, all different shades of pink.

A metal tub of Argyranthemum, another one that needs regular dead-heading, but it’s worth it….loads more flowers.

Now the trellis is full of everlasting sweet pea, what a pity they’re not scented though.

Climbing Rose Compassion is having another flush of flowers and these are scrambling through the Japanese Cherry tree.

This Hydrangea paniculata is flowering really well this year, the other one which is a few feet away has none at all!

New Dawn is still busy flowering away, worth it’s weight this one…:o)

Close-up of Cosmos….I like the dark pink ring around the centre.

And lovely dark pink beauty Lily Landini, she almost looks regal amongst my cottage garden flowers…:o)

That’s it for the August pinks, now I wonder what colour September will bring…….:o)))

That was lovely, Janey. You've some beautiful flowers there, but I especially love your stone wall; such a perfect backdrop for everything. That lily is a real stunner!

amazing! Love your fuchsia...i am not so lucky with mine...drying out...too hot outside ( 90+ degrees) and not enough sun inside ( windows are tinted). I love your petunias! I have some and the color is so vibrant...purple!
Great job on your garden..enjoy!

Lovely pics Janey, I love your wall too ...in fact I love your garden, I may have mentioned that before lol. Funny about your hydrangea not flowering, one of mine has no flowers either. I do have one the same as the one in your pic and that's flowering beautifully too:-)

Absolute pinkish, lol. Beautiful views. Love your garden arrangement, must be nice to spend there a lot of time.
So this is New Dawn rose? I have heard about it, I was even looking for it, but I did not find it. It looks really great. My favourite here is Compassion rose. It is even perfect photo :)))

Well what a lot of lovely comments....thanks everyone!
Thank you Shahida, Dd and Jane, yes I'm liking pink more and more, it goes great with lilacy blues and greys doesn't it?
Thanks Michaella and Moti, Garden4,yes it does sound like your temps are too high, I have the fuchsias in the shade and they are so thirsty too! The petunias are full of flowers this year, they've been late with the cool wet weather and have really come into their own now,
Ike you I love the vivid colours....:))
Aw thanks Ba, hydrangeas can be temperamental can't they, I bet next year, it'll be the other way round....:))
Glad you like it Katarina, like you I prefer the Compassion, even though the ND seems to flower forever, it's a bit pale for me, and Compassion is budding up again!
Many thanks Amy, we are lucky to have that wall, even though I don't think it's great for Feng Shui...:)),it is lovely stone.
Thanks Taz, this Compassion was bought off EBay as something else, and like yours for the first few years had just a few flowers. Then it seemed to really take off and with the rain this year has been flowering all summer. I have the cherry in front, which I thought I may move, but the Rose has pushed it's way through quite happily . I'm wondering if your rose would be better in the garden where it could have a cooler root run?

I think the combination white daisys with the Landini lily is smashing. I am definitely do this next year. Went to the Dr. today, and he said "you are still quite young", I hit 78 this year. So am planning on some new plants as of next year's blooming. When you get as old as I am, you think, i've enough in these gardens. But New Dawn I will have to try again, yours is so inviting. Our gardens are suffering the opposite, rocket high temps and no rain...

Thank you Wells! Don't forget 70 is the new 50 so that makes me 40 .....lol! New Dawn is a fabulous Rose Wells, when I look at my Rose arch, it's the only one still flowering away! Compassion still busy, and it has beautiful bronze leaves......I think my favourite one. I see you are in Vermont, we usually get your weather when you've finished with it....:)) that may mean a long hot late summer, I wish!
