Memories of yesterday

Yesterday was such a glorious day, with the really brilliant light that often comes with late summer and not too hot to be busy in the garden. I’m so pleased I tidied up and mowed the lawn before the lashing rain and wind of today!!
Heres a little bit of sunshine from my garden..:o)
Graham Thomas rose.
Rudbeckia lacianata which must be nearly 6ft tall.
White Scabious which the butterflies love.

I agree - it’s a beautiful rose. Glad you took the pics yesterday Janey ... hope it has survived today’s wild wind and lashing rain!

hazy, hot & humid in New York uggh. I'm waiting for the big storms to get here, and waiting and waiting and waiting. I'm sure it will happen some day. Love your garden Janey. 6 feet tall? I didn't know rudbeckia can get that tall. take care hope you are well. xx

It changes so quickly at the moment Janey, terrible day here also so like you I was also pleased I did some gardening yesterday, lovely to see the colour in your garden, I hope its surviving todays fiasco, everything is dancing in the wind and rain here.....

Love your Graham Thomas, Janey. Glorious colour.
I've hidden in the greenhouse over the last couple of days; warm showers yesterday, howling winds today! Don't you love a British 'summer'! Even the cat won't go out!

Graham Thomas is beautiful rose......ours only flowered once this year.....not sure why....
What a shocking day here, the weather is horrendous......hope your garden has survived ...two storms in three days...not good!

Lovely photos Janey ,but you always did take a good photo , we had a lot of rain last night the first for ages everything was so dry but so far none today its very blustery I wouldn't want to be on a boat out at sea .. .

Lovely photos on a sunny day Janey ... just awful down here on the coast with gale force winds whipping everything around ... :o(

Lovely flowers, Janey! :) We had quite a bit of rain first thing yesterday but the tremendous winds all through the afternoon, evening & night & even this morning due to Storm Francis have made a mess of the balcony! ;(
I thought things had been pretty rough with Storm Ellen a couple of days before but the amber wind warning for our part of the country was really something else!
The rain affected the balcony very little because of the wind direction but the winds themselves scorched no end of leaves especially on the Nasturtiums & the Morning Glories, it's unlikely that the surviving plants will flower again. The tomatoes got off the lightest being as they are deep inside the balcony, up against the flat windows. But they still had a few scorched leaves.
When we were expecting Storm Ellen I took the begonias out of their rings on the balcony railing & put them on the floor. I did the same with Storm Francis but this time a few plants were knocked over, though without major damage.
I have putt hem all back into their rings for the 2nd time this week. I hope we now have a quiet end of summer & autumn.

They're still there Sheila, it does feel quite like early autumn, so sad to hear some people are flooded again..:(( Hope you're ok..
I can imagine that can be debilitating Paul..city heat..
Ours seems to be so extreme now, sweltering heat and then lashing rain and cold air. I'm going to have to stop moaning..haha. Yes the rudbeckia is a perennial type.
Hope you're well too..
Hi Lincs, the wind is so strong too isn't it? All the tall plants seem to have weathered ok, but my green beans gave up the ghost...:((
We do have a mixed bag Ange, don't we? It always feels cosy in the GH. And you had warm showers, at least I know my new piece of guttering works!
Hi Dd, yes my Graham Thomas is passed its best altogether really, so to see a couple of blooms shining bright is a joy..:)) I suppose we must be thankful were not having to water ourselves!
Thanks Amy.. I thought the pics were a bit rubbish, with my iPad. No you wouldn't want to go boating, I think I could cope with the Broads tho..:)) How's Tony, I hope he's doing well..
Yes Shirley, one beautiful day and that's it.. Oh I bet it was yesterday, I hope your garden has withstood it all..

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that Balc, I can imagine how dried out the leaves soon become and the fleshy begonias are very tender aren't they? My green bean canes blew down and the top half of the Tommy plants were facing the ground. I've cut them off and will ripen the tommies inside instead. I hope you can leave everything back in their rightful places now. Yes an Indian summer would be perfect!

Lovely to see some sunny colours in your garden Janey :)
26 Aug, 2020
Thanks Hywel!

Janey, just some Cosmos flopping over onto the grass and a little wooden wheelbarrow, planted up and top dressed with gravel, completely blown over so nothing too major, thank goodness!
27 Aug, 2020
Oh blimey Shirley, it's all a bit much! Alls looking well at mine. It was such a beautiful sunny early morning and then this aft the heavens opened, came down in stair rods
and still is...:((

lovely flowers, those roses are so lush , just this damn weather lately /:
27 Aug, 2020
That's a really lovely yellow rose.
27 Aug, 2020
I hope your weather has calmed down now Janey ... we had a huge downpour overnight but just grey cloud now.
28 Aug, 2020
Thank you Feverfew, it's my favourite and such a lovely yellow too..:))
No Shirley, it's been horrendous! All day heavy rain and still going strong. Didn't stop my tree man coming though,
he's going to cut the Golden Birch by half, so,I can manage it myself..:))
28 Aug, 2020
Shame about the horrible weather where you are ... but what a good job the tree man will be doing for you. Anything that makes the garden more manageable can only be a good thing ... :o)
29 Aug, 2020
Yes, I'm very pleased, also during the winter months he'll come and prune the rest. I've been wittering about them all, with the types of weather we have now..and not being too good myself at the moment, I seem to,be able to see them growing...haha!
29 Aug, 2020
Janey, this morning the wind was so strong at 8am that when I opened the back door it nearly came off the hinges!!
Sorry you're not feeling too good right now, hope you feel better before too long ... :o)
30 Aug, 2020
Blimey! Ours is a quiet but grey day..:(( Next week is supposed to pick up and sunshine will be with us again, can't come too soon..:))
Thanks Shirley, a pinched nerve...it's being sorted...
30 Aug, 2020
Came home from the supermarket, then a coffee to find a big pot with a Camellia in had been blown over ... a mini tornado I think!!
Ouch, a pinched nerve sounds painful.
30 Aug, 2020
Oh no, is the Camellia ok?
Mmm....it is, and I won't tell you where it is..I have to titter because I've been at my wits end with it. It's been going on for nearly 9'years now, but the nerve was damaged, now it more or less healed itself, wish it had stayed damaged!
30 Aug, 2020
Both the Camellia and the big pot are unscathed ... phew!
That's a long time to have been troubled by it ... :o(
31 Aug, 2020
Pleased camellia and pot are as one. I've one in a tub that has grown so much this last couple of months that I'm going to,plant it in the garden come Autumn....
1 Sep, 2020
Good plan ... :o)
1 Sep, 2020
I had a pinched nerve in my lower back for about 10 years! Only an operation for a slipped disc resolved it! That first day after the op will stay with me always - the first day without any pain for 10 years! I'm no longer in pain but my back is stiff & it can cause quite a bit of trouble getting up or down. The op was carried out in a hospital in Madrid, Spain, 20 years ago!

I must have been hibernating from the gales etc, when you posted this blog and lovely Photo's Janey ! Lol..Mind you ,it doesn't take much for me to miss some :o(
Your Rose is such a beautiful colour, such a soft shade of yellow,no wonder you love it so much, and your Rudbeckia is superb too.I spy a yellow Achillea just photo bombing the Scabious, which looks similar to mine :o)
Sorry to hear you have been suffering with a trapped nerve, which I can empathise with,as I had one when I was pregnant... so painful,as you will already know.Still haven't forgiven my Daughter ..ha ha.
Sending you a PM ,Janey x
