The Coast to Coast Walk with Simon and Clare---The Final Part.

*This is the last part of our walk and we say goodbye to the Yorkshire Dales and now begin our trek over the North Yorkshire Moors

Ingleby Cross to Claybank Top Day 11 – 13 miles

The Water Tower at Ingleby Cross

We took the wrong turn in the forest due to Forestry workings and had to scramble up this slope. You can see the Vale of Mowbray that we crossed yesterday.

The Cleveland Hills start to unfold before us now with the plains of that Dammed Vale to our left – looks great from up here doesn’t it, a real patchwork of fields!

Clare and I near the Wainstones

Not far to go now , me at Hasty Bank next stop Clay Bank and our B.B.

Clay Bank to Glaisdale Day 12 19miles

A long trek today mainly across open moorland
Looking across Rosedale towards the White Lion Pub as we head for Glaisdale

Open expanses of moorland with hints of sea in the distance

Trough House and a suitable spot for lunch and brews from our packs

Great Fry up Dale and a few more miles before reaching Glaisdale, really excited now to think only another 19 miles tomorrow and we will have reached our goal

Glaisdale to Robin Hoods Bay Day 13 the final trek 19 miles

As Simon and Clare set off on their journey, Harry and I were also setting off from home to Robin Hoods Bay to meet them and spend a couple of days with them before bringing them back home, so lots of texting between us throughout the day to report on progress

The day starts our walk following the River Esk now from Glaisdale passing Arncliffe Woods.

Great Hawes and along the route passing Egerton Bridge

The Old Toll Road Charges

Trains at Grosmont and a great place to get Ice Cream

The road out of Grosmont was steep 1 in 3 and long, so hot and sticky for rest of the photos

From the Tumulus of Flat Howe the end is almost in sight, the North Sea and Whitby give scale and distance to the true end of Robin Hoods Bay

The Hermitage in the Great Wood at Littlebeck, its carved into the rocks with seats inside.

Falling Floss water fall near Midge Hill

Looking back over the great wood to the hill where Flat Howe is you can see our Path

The Sea Cliffs and the last 3 miles of the walk

As we walk down the road into Robin Hoods Bay, Mum and Dad are there to welcome and congratulate us, after hugs and embraces they accompany us down to the sea for the Traditional soaking of the feet in the North Sea
The tears of joy and sadness ending such a Fabulous journey!

More beer at the Wainwright Bar, what a pub crawl this has been with fellow walker lol

What a happy, emotional and unforgettable couple of days we spent in Robin Hoods Bay with Simon and Clare, watching all the different walkers arriving at the end of their walk and exploring Whitby and R.H.B.
Just few more pictures to share.

View of the Bay from our Hotel bedroom

Whitby Abbey

The arrival of The Extreme Cello’s
the trio of musicians who had completed the walk carrying their Cello’s on their backs and playing at different venues raising money for charity. [information about them in part two) They gave a moving and heartwarming concert outside the Wainwright Bar

A sad Farwell to Robin Hoods Bay on a Misty Morning

Well thats all folks, many, many thanks to all who have stayed with us on this long and fantastic jouney, hope you have enjoyed it all.*

The photographs are wonderful, pp. It was quite an undertaking and it's been captured so well...I'm so glad you shared Simon and Clare's walk with us.

I can't imagine the difficulty of the cello players carrying their instruments on their backs all those miles. Bet the concerts were well received. Our son plays cello and it's quite a big instrument to carry from the car to a venue, never mind over all those miles. I admire their stamina.

I can almost smell the lush vegetation and the clear country air as I view the photos. Thank you.

Thanks so much for your comments Whiston if you would like to find out more abot the Extreme Cello's just type in the name on google its well worth a visit the venues and amounts of money raised is amazing ;0)

Thank you for the link pp. I've had a quick look and will return to the site later. Sent the link to our son as well as it would interest him. He moved back to Canada (his birthplace) last September and couldn't afford to take his cello with him so it's sitting in our dining room until he comes home to claim it!

The group have raised a significant amount with very original ideas/venues.

Thanks Sixpence It was a wonderful couple of days, Robin Hoods Bay is picturesque and fascinating with its quaint street and houses, very steep though, but steeped in history, smugglers , rum etc but a great atmosphere full of happy emotions, and merry making as the walkers hobble in after their marathon walks.

10 Sep, 2010

Sounds wonderful Carole perhaps one day I might see for myself, I bet a nice warm bowl of salted water is awaiting those hobble walkers to rest their weary feet.

Wonderful series PP and highlights what a great acheivement for Simon and Clare to complete. That last stretch out of Grosmont is almost cruel after so many miles that climb up is hard enough but suppose the final push gets you up it.When you drive up you end up staring at sky through your windscreen its that steep ..

Thank you again for sharing this .
