A GOY Friend Visits Me Downunder

Sometimes the world can seem slightly smaller. I joined this wonderful site back in 2009, and met Heather here shortly after.

Well, just yesterday we sat down and had a lovely morning tea out in my courtyard. It was an absolute pleasure to meet her in person for the very first time. All it took was for Heather to hop on a plane, travel for hours and hours to come and visit some of her family, who just happen to live in the same city as myself!!!

I had to dust off the teapot and teacups. They don’t get used all that often. I whipped up a batch of lemonade scones and some muffins. The lemonade scones were very well received. I think I should have made a double batch!!! Then Heather and some of her lovely family, my hubby and I sat out in my courtyard garden and got to know each other a little better.

It was wonderful to be able to actually meet a cyber friend … and despite my hubby’s concern about inviting strangers to our place, it turns out Heather wasn’t an axe-wielding weirdo!!! Lol! She is a gorgeous sweet lady and I so enjoyed sitting and chatting about gardens and plants, even though our experiences with both is so very different.

This isn’t the first time I’ve had a GOY friend visit my place, however. Two years ago, the wonderful Mossy popped over to Oz and just happened to stay here in Townsville. Unfortunately my camera’s batteries were flat when he came for a luncheon, so I didn’t have any photos to add to my photo album. It was fabulous meeting him and I have great memories of that time.

So, any other GOYers heading Downunder? You’re most welcome to come and visit.

How wonderful,Bernieh..and a lovely photo..I don't know your visitor by her name..is she a GoY member,or someone you have met from your website? That was so nice to meet up..:o) which one is you please?
About Mossy..The week before last,,four of us met up in Manchester,to meet Gattina who was on a flying visit from Italy..and Waddy kindly bought her that weeks copy of 'Garden news'.It had a three page spread all about Mossy;s garden..Sadly ,I didn't see it,and couldn't manage to get one..very popular here,so it was sold out..
Your scones sound delicious :o)...none of us arrived carrying an axe either ! Lol.

Sandra, the Lemonade Scones are just fabulous. I love my scones and they are my favourite. Buttermilk are next on my best-scones-ever list!

It seems we can safely say that gardening cyber friends are O.K.!!! I'll let M know, so he doesn't complain if another one comes visiting.

Bloomer, yes my cyber friend is a GOY member. She doesn't post photos or blogs though, but makes lots of comments on others' photos and blogs as 'Heather'. She's the one on the left, and I'm the one on the right.

Thanks goodness there were no axes or blades of any type when you all met up, lol! Do you think perhaps my darling M is a bit of a worry wart!

How wonderful to hear that Mossy's garden was written up, and had such a great spread. It's such a fabulous creation and the recognition is well deserved. It would be such a treat to get to see it in real life one day!! Well it would be a treat to visit many of your gardens if I ever get over there again.

Thank you,Bernieh..it's nice to put a face to the name :o) I don't think I have come across your friend Heather..but there are so many members now,it's hard to keep track ..
..and no,your OH isn't alone..and we weren't destined for the white slave trade either..:o) ..not after they saw me,anyway ! Lol.
I was disappointed not to see that article..it sounds lovely..you are going to need a very long holiday,if you can get round all ours,Bernieh..but about two minutes is all you will need for mine.. ..so if you are ever passing by? :o))

28 Oct, 2012

Lol, now 'white slave trade' was one thought my darling M didn't come up with. I'll just have to tell him that one!!!

As for getting over your way, there is a possibility next year. Our youngest is now living in Ireland and we're hoping that, if all goes well, we might be able to visit next year. We still have some friends in England from our last visit that we'd love to pop in and see. Who knows, if there's enough time, I might just pop in to take the two-minute tour of your garden as well.

What a really lovely blog. xxx

You would be very welcome,Bernie..:o) It would be nice if you were in an area, where a few could manage to meet up with you..not easy sometimes, even if the intentions are good..It will be lovely to see your youngest in Ireland though. I hope it all goes to plan for you :o)

Thank you for your kind comment Pamg.

Keep everything crossed for us, Bloomer. We would so love to get over and catch up with our youngest son, and it would be so fantastic to actually some of my GOY friends. Thanks for your welcome. I might keep you to your word, lol!

28 Oct, 2012

I will,Bernieh, and even if you don't get up to Yorkshire, three of us have easy access to Manchester,by train....we are always up for meeting other friends.:o) You never know what is going to evolve from GoY ! Lol

28 Oct, 2012

Right, I'll keep that in mind, Bloomer.

Lovely for you all to meet up - I had a smile at your husband's thought - I suppose it's the press that put all these kind of ideas into people's heads. There are, I suppose, many weirdos out there but most of us are just ordinary/normal people - with one head and no axe :))
Nearest I've been to you Bernie is to Airlie Beach. We were staying with mum's family in Mackay. Who incidently I met with online, whilst doing our genealogy. They came to visit the UK first and we had the most amazing holiday seeing Gold Coast/Brisbane then north to Mackay.

How lovely for you Berni meeting up with Heather, it seems more and more of Goy members are meeting up with each other, so if you are in the Manchester part of England I will certainly be joining Bloomer to welcome you ;0)

28 Oct, 2012

Hey, me too :)
Loved the Blog Berni...now that GoY meet-up will take some beating.

28 Oct, 2012

Where did you two come from ? Lol...I don't know,a whiff of a girly day out,and you are there ! Lol xx

28 Oct, 2012

I'm sorry that we others missed that lovely looking food . Looked yummy !

28 Oct, 2012

Scottish, if there's a worry to be had then my darling will most certainly have it!!! In the end though, of course, Heather and her family were just lovely.

I'm glad you enjoyed your time Downunder, and how amazing that you got to meet family by going online. I've been tracking family history online too, but haven't been lucky enough to meet extended family members.

I've been to your fair city of Edinburgh though. Such a beautiful city, and my hubby and I just loved Scotland. We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to drive around with a Scot born and bred who girl who just happened to marry one of my hubby's best friends. She was the perfect tour guide.

28 Oct, 2012

Thanks Carole, PP, I'll do my darndest to make sure we get across the water next year so I can meet lots of GOYers in Manchester! That would be fantastic.

28 Oct, 2012

Waddy, just a little bit more distance to cover for that GOY meet-up. I wonder if it would be the record of distance travelled??

28 Oct, 2012

Bloomer, you just can't keep girls from getting together!

28 Oct, 2012

Driad, the morning tea was enjoyed by all. There was hardly a crumb of those lemonade scones left!

28 Oct, 2012

Lovely for you to meet up with Heather.
... and interesting to know that Fabrice visited you also :o)

30 Oct, 2012

Fingers crossed for next year...wonder if we can get Gattina there too? :0

30 Oct, 2012

It's been amazing TT. I would never have thought any of my GOY friends would end up in my city!!! But there you go!

Fabrice has been coming to this part of Oz off and on for a few years now, and Heather has family that have lived here for ages! Small world.

30 Oct, 2012

Waddy, it would be a real treat if we could all meet up! I'm so hoping that hubby and I will be able to take time off next year to get over there once again.

30 Oct, 2012

I remember Heather from the early days.
Nice lady. She joined GoY back in 2008.

I hope next time Fabrice visits you'll have a camera handy ... with batteries ;o)

30 Oct, 2012

Lol, yes TT it was the most inopportune time for flat batteries. Fabrice took photos but I didn't get the opportunity to see those unfortunately. Luckily all was well with the batteries during Heather's visit.

Smashing blog Bernieh, how wonderful to meet an online friend, you made me chuckle at the way you said" just pop on a plane and travel for hours" I think your hubby sounds like a naturally wary person and I can associate with that ,lol, pleased you all enjoyed the visit, the wonders of the web makes the world so much smaller...

It was a rare treat, Lincslass. So unexpected.

Thankyou for that comment Terratoonie.

This was a specially lovely meeting and I felt as if I had known Bernie for ages. I certainly knew the garden from the brilliant photos.

The reason I have no photos on GoY is that I don't know how to do it. I am tempted to put the link on here to the photos I have taken. In fact, perhaps I should and then you would get photos and the little blog about the garden from my point of view. http://gardenfriends.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=blogs&action=display&thread=2329&page=1

19 Nov, 2012

Sorry, that link does not work. The GoY forum must have some sort of built in deterrent. Never mind. I will write the description and you have to forget the pics.

19 Nov, 2012

Heather, you can load your photos straight from your computer, it's easy. Just go to 'add photos' under Your Options, and you'll see the 'browse' tab. Click on that and you will be able to choose any photo that's stored on your computer.
