TheWhen we decided to visit the Harrogate flower show,we wanted to include a return visit to this wonderful place, and see it in Springtime,as the last blog and pics, were taken in October. Also,we took a different route,on the opposite side of the river, and to visit the old Watermill as well, that we didn’t have time to see before. We were very lucky again, weatherwise,so another lovely day out…hope you enjoy the walk with us.

The west gate entrance, from the car park.Lovely stone buildings.

this is Fountains Hall, now a museum. We have saved this for another good excuse to re visit, another time, but we saw a party of children, and adults, dressed up in the white robes of the Cistercian monks,as there are a lot of educational visits here. The brown habits, were worn by the choir Monks.

Some of the wildflowers along the way..Native Bluebells just appearing.

A little red Campion.

Primroses..

Sweet Violets.

erm,hang on a minute,this is MY road.!

A resting place..

The start of the lake, and the Temple of Piety,We are now walking back on the other side towards the Abbey.

This is Fountains Abbey Mill, and one of the reasons for a return visit.I will do another blog and pics later,as there is so much historical information about this, and it would take too long on here, and I wouldn’t want you to get bored…We also visited Brimham Rocks, for a day,and the Old Theakston’s Brewery at Masham..cheers! :o) so other blogs and pics to follow..

I hope you enjoyed the return visit with us,as we will never tire of this lovely place..

thanks Sticki,it is a vast area,so I'm not surprised you didn't see it,as it is right at the far end by Studley royal deer park. You need at least 2 full days to see everything, and in our case,we will go again for the 3rd time,to go round the museum.Good job we joined the National Trust last year,so at least we can get in free now. It's quite expensive for a daily ticket,so recouped our money already

thanks,It is a tranquil place,Sue,and never seems crowded..so much space..
Karen, you would love it,as its just your cup of tea ,..and you can get a good one at either of the 2 cafe's ! Lol.
Glad you enjoyed it,thank you..
Thanks,I knew you would like it Hywel, and I love those buildings in the 1st pic too.I looked for info about them, but think they must be used for storage and office related work for the Abbey now,as only a 'Private' notice on them..We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful historical country..:o)
Thank you 6d,I loved the wild flowers as well.Idon't know if it was used in that programme or not,as we have so many Abbeys, stately homes and gardens in Yorkshire.I know Castle Howard was used for Brideshead revisited..but could be any of them....

We have a NT membership so I will put this lovely place on our list as well. I love the stone buildings of Yorkshire and as you say there are so many stately homes, church ruins etc. to view....it would take days and days!

It does look like lovely grounds...and the weather to match. A feast for the eyes :)

Its a fantastic place Bloomer, been there 4 times and the first was 30 years ago. Wonderful undercroft. This last time we went to the Mill and it was fascinating. As you say, so much to see. Showed you how they did the stonework. Clever blokes these monks!!
Thanks for sharing and bringing back lovely memories and whoever visits should go to Newby Hall too (not too far away). Fantastic gardens and a lovely house.
