A wet miserable day,no leaves to be swept up,no gravel to dig in,so as we have worked him to the bone lately,we thought Thomas could have a day off.:o)
Naturally,he was only playing with this,to humour Grandad..who has been itching for the day when he could bring it down from the loft…:o)

Wow,this is good !

See? I knew Grandad would want to muscle in !..and what’s my Dinosaur doing in there?

I know it’s near Christmas to be giving him toys,,but all this cost only £4 from a Charity shop, last year…and passed an afternoon on for a happy little boy :o)

Well worth every penny Sandra to see the boys enjoying themselves, it looks lots of fun, lovely pictures ;0))

It was,Carole, thank you ....they had a great time..I had to do my bit after tea..not easy getting up again ! Lol.

21 Nov, 2012

What a great find, lots of fun too on a wet day and he deserves a break from all the graft :o)

21 Nov, 2012

It was,Neellan..mostly all his toys at our house are from charity shops..so we all benefit :o)..No way would we pay the ridiculous new prices !

21 Nov, 2012

I've not seen any toys as nice as that in charity shops locally, I am shocked at the prices of some toys that look as if they wouldn't last til Boxing Day!!

21 Nov, 2012

Good buy! Thomas will get a lot of fun for your £4. I often pick up nice things from charity shops ....not allowed to call them that in NZ. Politically-incorrect. We have to call them them Op- Shops (short for Opportunity Shops). Having lived in England for many years, I sometimes forget & call them Charity shops, & get promptly told off. No such thing as charity in NZ .....just opportunity LOL

Now who was the happy little boy me thinks grand dad Sandra hehe, can see Thomas loved it just as much at least Thomas got grand dad behaving for the after noon lol. Lovely shots of both of them playing together.

22 Nov, 2012

great buy Bloomer - nice to watch their delight with these things :-))))

22 Nov, 2012

I agree,Neellan, and not much play value either..We have lots of shops here,so it's Russell's favourite pastime, trawling round them ...and the 2nd hand open market..the lady there, watches out for him now ! Lol
...........
Some great bargains to be had,Dwylis,if you have the time..as we do :o) ..Op Shops? mmm, wonder how long it will be before it catches on here? ..Someone is bound to pick up on it !
.........
Thanks 6d,,I think it is 40% of each ..and 20% Grandma ! Lol....He will be here tomorrow morning again, while mum goes to the Hairdressers...must oil the knees in preparation ! :o))
.........
Thanks Paul...wanna come and play ? you would be most welcome..I'll put the kettle on ! Lol :o))

Hi Sandra...
Lovely pics of Thomas and his 'assistant' ;o)

I don't think it is just a 'man' thing.
I reckon many little girls like trains too ...

Great idea to buy toys from charity shops... that's where I get most of my dogs' equipment for their trick routines. :o))

22 Nov, 2012

Wow, Sandra that was a bargain and no mistake.

Thomas and the 'fat controller' (sorry, didn't mean Russell is fat) had a great time by the looks of things. I don't think men ever really grow up..do you?
Richard spends hours with his trains lol :):)
He firmly believes Freya will be into trains very soon. Perhaps we should get her and Thomas together?

22 Nov, 2012

Thank you Terra..) I agree,I used to love trains too,and Alison also..we still do..and a great way to help the charity shops, and plenty of them these days..:o)

22 Nov, 2012

Thanks Waddy..no offence taken :o) ..I think it's a good idea too..a match made in Heaven ? lol.He might have to keep it quiet from Ellie Mae,Mia and another young lady at Nursery..a bit of a ladies man,our Thomas. Lol..should be ok with us as chaperones :o)))

22 Nov, 2012

Well I,m not suprised that the girls are after him, its that lovely grin.....Thomas I mean...... :0))

its a wonderful toy especially for a rainy day, one he'll look forward to playing with for ages.....
I didn't have a train set .....no brothers......but lots of cousins to play trains with!

Just out of curiosity I googled it.....little tikes road and rail set
Between £40-£50.........

22 Nov, 2012

Dinosaur..that's no way to be referring to Grandad...........
Oh, that Dinosaur!
What a bargain!!,

22 Nov, 2012

You ll have to get some knee pads Sandra lol

22 Nov, 2012

what a brilliant buy Bloomer, I did the same last year and went to our local hospice shop and bought toys for my little one, came home laden for a fiver, Thomas and Russel look to be having a great time together,

22 Nov, 2012

We'll have to get together with them perhaps when the better weather starts again...that would be nice :) Who knows where it might lead...?

22 Nov, 2012

Hello Thomas :-)))))))))))

22 Nov, 2012

My grandson had that set Sandra, he was still playing with it well into primary school days because he just added to it with more big boy toys, you got a bargain there as I remember how much it cost new 10yrs back, I`ve had hours of fun with my grandson, we also had some from charity shops in our time and they were like new, we pass toys around family and friends over the years, in fact there are toys in boxes at various houses that originally belonged to the 40plus age group and now the next generation are having fun with them, lol..
Love the photographs but where has baby Thomas gone???????

22 Nov, 2012

Thanks Bloomer :D

My goodness,Pam..so much? I've just told Russell ,and he said there was a cut out from an Argos catalogue in with it,stating the price when it was first bought at £30.00p,after I told him what you had found,so it's been around for a while then..Such beautiful condition too,and very clean..although we always give them a good wash anyway..interesting to know that,Thanks :o)
...........
Lol,Paul T G ! (hope you don't mind the abbv,with there being two Pauls on here :o) ...re Dinosaur...if the cap fits ?? :o) ..thank you,definitely a bargain :o)

Hi Val,I was just thinking about you this morning..all good,in case you ask :o).Glad you do the same,we have plenty to choose from too..They had a great time, thanks ..will PM you later xxx
.............
Great idea,Waddy..it would be nice for them to have a new playmate...in the better weather..!:o)
............
Hello Junna...you can come and play too,if you like :o) xx
It's nice for them to use their imagination ,isn't it,Sue?
We had a lot of crashes yesterday, and cries of 'oh,no '!
The fire engine and Doctor/nurse were called out a lot..
I had the bandages ready..old bits of white tape lurking in the bottom of my sewing box..I just knew I'd find a use for them someday ! Lol...The baby has disappeared somewhere, this past couple of months, but I like the little man who has taken his place :o)
...........
Anytime,Paul..:o))))))x

23 Nov, 2012

I like the look of this toy and the pleasure that it is giving Thomas, not to mention your husband!!!
I think he will want to play with it many more times in the winter weeks ahead - and so will Thomas!!!

23 Nov, 2012

Thanks Moti..it's great isn't it? He came again this morning,as his mum went to the Hairdressers..and he was amazed it wasn't still all set up,when he arrived! No way am I having it as a permanent accessory ! Lol.
.........
Thanks Chris, your two little boys would love it..so much to do with it..even a little Helipad on top, complete with helicoptor..He had a break from it,...and so did I ! as it was fine and sunny,so Russell took him to the swings ..:o)

23 Nov, 2012

Such happy boys Sandra, both large and small.... I love charity shops:-)

24 Nov, 2012

Hi,Ba \o/..both happy ..and so is my purse! :o)) x

25 Nov, 2012

I agree with everything said ,I too buy toy's & books for my grandchildren in charity shops the price asked for those kind of toys when new are ridiculous it's so sad when you see them all end up in those shops but glad we can recycle them as my OH says with out adding to the plastic mountain , when they get bored with them I take them to another charity shop :-)

27 Nov, 2012

A bargain, and a good time was had by all by the look of it.....

27 Nov, 2012

Same here,Kidsgran..I have a bag ready to take to our 'Forget -me -not ' trust shop, which is for a brand new Childrens Hospice, ready to open shortly..in our area..so funds are desperately needed
Thanks Dd,it passes a lot of time on a wet cold day,..for all of us ! :o)

28 Nov, 2012

Seeing your "two boys" playing together was a lovely sight! I remember when Grace was with us as a baby and toddler, I used to make "nappies" for tiny tears and her twin dolls, out of tissues. The local chemist prescribed a good cold remedy for me cos she thought the constant purchase of paper hankies were for me! . She laughed when i told her, what they were really for, and told me to cut up an old white pillow slip to save the pennies. Never thought of doing that!!!!!!! :)))))))

30 Nov, 2012

I think we had to use our imaginations a lot more,Val..about making things..Also sheets and bedding for Doll's cots and prams..all out of old scraps..I made quilted top covers out of an old Dressing gown..along with all the knitting of doll's clothes..I loved those times :o)

Fantastic buy for £4 and is it "A man thing?" Sure is Sandra. When I left the RAF I started work on the dust carts. The amount of toys that were chucked out were unbelievable. I used to bring them home and after a good clean I use to share with my then young children and their friends. Often use to see the father's and grand father's checking out some of my toys in my local British Legion.

Once I found a horse racing game and the amount of fun we use to have on whose horse would win.

Thanks for bringing back happy memories .

Tom

It seems such a waste to throw out good reusable things,Tom,but a sad reflection of a lot of people..we still have a selection of' girly' things in the loft..some of which he can play with..but mainly books, which appeal to either.all the Mr Men ones will be reappearing shortly..and the 'Miss's '...my mum and I used to buy them on a regular basis for our daughter..who will be 34 soon ..all in prime condition..I am looking forward to reading them again myself :o)
