Meander to Montenegro..

This was one of the places we visited recently,on a Cruise starting from Dubrovnik .We were heading inland to Kotor,a Medieval walled city with World Heritage Status..It is surrounded by mountains, and set on Southern Europe’s deepest Fjord and one of the most spectacular natural Harbours..
Montenegro (Black Mountain )is surrounded by no less than 6 countries, with it’s coastline on the Adriatic sea.

We were advised to be up on deck by 7am,to experience the two hour journey it took to sail the length of the lake ,with the skill of the Captain and crew, which seemed almost impossible in our eyes, but what a wonderful sight,as we arrived in the Port of Kotor..
I hope you enjoy the journey with us…

Docked at last..all the red roofed buildings are coming into view, and the anticipation of exploring the walled town, with it’s narrow winding streets, shops and Monuments..There are also four Palaces,a 12th century Church, and an 11th Century Cathedral….Sorry, but we both just clicked away, not knowing which was which, with ooh’s and Ah’s round every corner..:o)
If you look very closely about halfway up this photo, above the OI of the date? you will just see the White Church up the mountain…A lot further than it looks, but some hardy souls made it ..not us Lol.

This is the Maritime Museum….

..and a few artefacts on display,in a little green area..the only one we saw in the walled town..

Leaving the walled town behind us,and time for a stroll along the lakeside,,

.Time to sit and relax with a well needed coffee..

I did finally take a photo of something floral,as we headed back to the ship for lunch..

I hope you have enjoyed the tour ,and if you ever get the chance to visit,I can highly recommend this pretty place..:o) Sadly it was our last port of call,as we flew home the following day.but a lasting memory to cherish…

Looks a spectacular and interesting place. And what a great journey to cruise through that fjord like that!

It looks as if it is a place with tremendous character and appeal. I love the shuttered windows, the balconies, the red roof tops and that little grassy area.
It was also a lovely photo of both of you. It is easy to see why you liked it so much.

What a beautiful place it looks. That looks like quite an approach, as well!

Thank you Chris..Glad you enjoyed it.I think it's the type of place you would like to visit too..Montenegro in general,is no longer the hidden away place that it was..It seems to gaining in popularity..but Kotor seems to be a favourite place to visit for a day,or a weekend..I don't think there would be enough to do for longer than that..It isn't that far from Dubrovnik,so maybe they do boat trips there....

It looks wonderful Sandra with amazing scenery ,that first photo looks as if you are edging nearer & nearer to a massive waterfall I'm glad you had a lovely holiday with some smashing memories to last you through the winter . xxx

Thank you Angela,Pam,Sheila and Amy.It will always stay in our memories of one of our favourite places ..so many of those too..A shame it was overcast on that day,as the Photo's would have looked better, but it was plenty warm enough for us walking around..in fact, just right :o) x

Looks like a grand day out. I never knew there were fjords there. That little area of green must feel like an oasis on a hot day. That's a great pic of you two standing bu the wall, clearly enjoying the trip!

Lovely pictures Sandra, it has taken us back a good few years when we visited Dubrovnic and stayed in Korcula, one of the best holidays we have had, so much to see and enjoy;0)

What a fasinating place, Sandra. Dubrovnic and its area is one of the places I'd really like to visit. Now your photos have really made me want to go even more, it looks amazing. The Brugmansia in the last photo is a lot better than the one Richard is trying to grow...which he has christened 'Ethel!'

Thank you Sue, we weren't aware it was anything like that either,as we didn't research each and every destination, before we went...but each day you get a 'Cruise News' in your cabin, giving you details for the following day..it lived up to the write up ,and more :o)

Glad you enjoyed it,Carole.and we also visited Korcula, which was a lovely Island.I can see how you would love it there... we took a few photo's there,so will see if they are interesting enough to post..We got caught in the heaviest rain and gale force wind, whilst waiting for the tender back to the ship..all like drowned rats ,,but warm ones ! Lol x

Thank you Julia.I'm sure you would love it in that area..lots of other nice places in Croatia too..seems to be getting quite popular..I love Richards name for the Brugmansia..Lol Is this sometimes called Datura,or am I on the wrong plant ?

7 Jul, 2016

No Sandra, you're absolutely right. Aren't you impressed, me knowing the 'latin' name?

7 Jul, 2016

Thank you Sandra,Shirley and Neena..we really loved it there..I believe there are other nice places in Montenegro, not too far away from Kotor..Some went on an organised tour ,which was more of a walking theme..,but we wanted to look round the town..that was enough walking for us :o) x

Wonderful Sandra, fantastic scenery :o) x

Thank you Hywel.it .reminded me of our own Lake district in parts..but warmer ! xx

A beautiful part of the world. I was in Dubrovnik and its surroundings which was then a part of Yugoslavia. While there, I heard some unsettling and curious remarks from the locals which I won't mention here but the reason for which became all too clear a year later, 1991 I believe, when that ancient walled city was shelled from the heights behind it and from the sea in front of it. Utter madness took hold.

Thank you for reading my blog,Loosestrife..They were terrible days,indeed...but I don't think the damage to Dubrovnik was as bad as some of the other places in the former Yugoslavia,thankfully..We didn't actually notice anything, but maybe we weren't looking in the right places.. Bosnia,Albania , and others surround Montenegro..all seem to be living in harmony..let's hope it stays that way...

Hi Sandra...somehow I missed this earlier. Isnt it a beautiful place! There is so much of Europe I would like to see. It looks fascinating. :)

Forgot to say...pic. Of you and hubby is really lovely. One for a frame!

Thank you Karen..I'm sure you would like this part of Montenegro..I don't know much about other parts of it,but it's getting increasingly popular this year..not to saturation point I hope, but once the press start to promote it,...well,say no more ! .lots of other nice places on the Adriatic though..I'm not over keen on that photo, but then again,I never am ! :o) thanks anyway, but it's staying in my photo folder Lol x

Aw...pity about that photo.

I wish I could go and visit these places, but I am such a bad traveller, it really isn't worth it for me...especially if a boat is involved! Most of my travel is vicarious nowadays!
