Almost the end of summer ? Really ?

I don’t think my plants are ready to take any notice just yet..still lots of colour,as though they are putting on their best show of the season,in complete defiance !
The Pelargoniums are huge this year. There is only one in each pot,and were overwintered from last year..sadly,the trailing Lobelia have had to go..but the Petunia’s,as yet have not succumbed to being a sticky mess..
The Cosmos in the borders are still wonderful, but the ones in pots, are quite sparse.(.memo to self, for next year…)
Sedum Purple Emperor ,has put on a good show too,as have all it’s offspring ..
Old faithful Fuchsia Empress of Prussia,..I still have the original, which is now 17 years old, plus another five..not counting cuttings for friends..so she has been a good mother..Lol.
This might not look anything special, just a Carnation..but this and two others, were cuttings taken from a bunch of cheap supermarket flowers last Autumn. They are all together in a small border, and I love them :o)
I tried some Nicotiana this year, and quite pleased with them although I did expect them to be taller, and scented ?
Lastly, this is my long border at the front of the house. The Crocosmia,‘Lucifer’ have now finished flowering, which seems earlier than usual this year, but still plenty of colour to enjoy..
I have edited this blog,to add a photo of Fuchsia’ Lena’,which Sue(Steragram) kindly sent me a few years ago ,to replace one which was my late mum’s,and it sadly died..thank you ,Sue..as you can see it’s looking very healthy :o)

Thank you Julia,I've no complaints about the garden this year..let's hope it continues for a good while yet..:o)
.........
Thank you Sbg..your Asters will give an extra burst of colour for the coming weeks..I've never tried Asters, maybe I should...

It all looks very pretty Sandra and full of colour ,congratulations clever you for growing the carnations from a super market bouquet not the easiest thing to do when you've no idea how long they've been cut ... x

Still doing well here also Sandra, I keep deadheading and they keep coming, yours are doing very well, I hate it when the petunia's go sticky, lol, well done with those carnations, very pretty, I've tried that many a time but have never had any success, what is your secret, my Lucifer is long gone, it was very early, ordinary orange having a marvellous time but no flowers at all on my yellow Crocosmia's which is a disappointment, my garden can't decide which season it is, makes for interesting combinations this year.......Lovely photographs..

Lots of lovely colour there Sandra. The Purple Emperor you sent me some years ago is doing very well and now has a "child " of its own.
30 Aug, 2019
Thank you Amy.I did the same last year, with some pink ones, which were also successful..maybe it was the right Supermarket to buy them from..ha ha..

Thank you Sue . I think the deadheading every day, when possible,is why the Petunia's haven't gone sticky ? Well, that's my theory anyway. I have some golden Crocosmia's ,and they have just finished flowering..I wonder why your yellow ones didn't flower this year ? Mine are in the next to the last photo of my Border..are they the same as yours,or are your's 'proper' Yellow ? xx
just edited and added another photo for Stera :o)

Thank you Stera..I'm glad the Sedum ,and child.. is doing well for you.ha ha..I've just added a photo of' Lena',the Fuchsia you kindly sent me..Isn't she pretty ? X

Such lovely photos here. Each plant is really looking its best.
I shall take heed of what you said about your Cosmos. I only planted it in containers this year and it has become very straggly now. Next year, I shall make space in the beds. Yours is a very pretty one.
The carnations have done really well, I love the colours.
Enjoy your lovely garden and keep on with the dead-heading!!

Thank you Chris.I'm very pleased with the Carnations, and will try some again, next year..
It's only my opinion, that the Cosmos haven't done well in pots, but I've always had good results when planted in the ground..lesson learned,it seems..I wonder what other Goy friends think ? it would be interesting to know.:o)

Hello Sandra, I'm pleased I can see your photos as some blogs have lost theirs! The Pelargoniums, just one plant in each pot, are magnificent so well done for over Wintering them, clever lady!
I didn't sow any Cosmos seed this year and really wish I had as I missed the ferny foliage and the flowers of course. I have never tried growing them in pots so can't help you there.
Sedum 'Purple Emperor' is incredible this year. To think it all started with a small cutting from Carole ... :o))

Hi Shirley..yes,it's been a bit odd hasn't it? but glad some have reappeared now..
I bought my Cosmos this year,as I got a bit fed up of seed sowing,to be honest..I replanted one of them in the front border,at the weekend, and pleased to say,it really is looking much more perky! I wonder if it prefers more space than it gets in a pot? the roots were quite dry,and it looked starved of nutrients..I do feed and water, honestly ! Lol Anyway,I won't be planting them in pots again...
I agree, the Sedum is really lovely isn't it? I always think of Carole when I'm looking at it xx

Your garden certainly looks a picture Sandra, and very well tended. I love white Cosmos and these are real beauties.
I grew some too this year, but only a few germinated including a white and a very dark red which is lovely.
I'm wondering if your nicotianas are a dwarf variety? I have a self set from last year...dark mauve, about 3ft high and really scented in the evening; like you I thought they all were. It all looks very pretty...X

Thank you for the pic of Lena.I have mine in the border "leaning" over a low wall and they have got very big. They drop their flowers onto the drive so take some sweeping up after! Yours looks very well behaved.
I wonder did your yellow Crocosmia flower in the end? Mine was later than the orange ones.
I have a small clump of the bog standard one in a pot (rather than throw them out) and they have flowered very poorly so it might be worth trying yours in the ground for a year.

how weird Sandra, your pics have cleared off, they were there when I commented before..
3 Sep, 2019
Thank you Janey..I shall save seed from that White one,in fact it's more creamy than white, which looks much softer..I didn't know there was a dwarf variety of Nicotiana, but it does make sense .I would prefer the scented variety though,so must remember to look for that next year.xx

oops.!! looks like my pictures have done a disappearing act now !! thanks Sue (L.Lass ) for letting me know..guess it's a case of 'watch this space' to see if they suddenly return !
What on earth is going on just lately ???
3 Sep, 2019
Thank you Stera.. Lena is being very well behaved, isn't she? I do however have a few to sweep up too,but a small price to pay for such a pretty Lady..
My Crocosmia are finished now,but I think it was Sue's(L.lass) whose yellow ones were disappointing..mine are more of a golden/sandy shade ? is the best way I could describe them....
I wonder why my pictures have disappeared ???

Overall a beautiful effect despite the very disappointing summer we have had. Like you I have been disappointed with the dwarf nicotiana no perfume unlike the standard ones I usually grow.
Oh, your pictures have disappeared, what is going on?.
4 Sep, 2019
Thank you Stroller...were you able to see the pictures? I STILL can't see them..!No idea what's going on..I have now sent an email to Dave,as suggested by others who had lost theirs too..let's hope he can help..

Who has had a disappointing summer? Here it has been very hot some days and dry over an extended period. We are having a bit of rain now though, much needed. Unusual for Wales to be so dry!

Your lovely photos are back today Sandra - hope that you have got them too.
5 Sep, 2019
They are showing up for me too ... hooray!
5 Sep, 2019
Whoo hoo ! I've only just seen them tonight,Chris and Shirley ..I hope others have had theirs restored too ..let's hope the problem is solved now..If it was your doing Dave, thank you very much..:o)

Sandra your garden is certainly not closing down, more like taking a bow, and opening the show!! What a display!! beautiful, well done you....xx

Thank you Angela, you are so kind..They all seem to do well ,as they are sheltered from the worst of the weather. The back garden is at least 2 meters lower than next door, with a wall, plus a fence above that, which divides us.not that it stops us chatting over it.. a lot ! ha ha..and the front border has the high Bowling Green wall behind it..sort of a Micro Climate,I guess ,which all helps :o) xx
6 Sep, 2019
Ideal then Sandra, no wonder everything looks so good in your garden....
9 Sep, 2019
If only I could spell properly,Angela ..Meters ?? lol..just seen my mistake, must do better..ha ha xx
9 Sep, 2019
Don't worry with my dreadful eyesight, I didn't even notice!! Lol
14 Sep, 2019
Lol,Angela,I must have been thinking of my Utility company, who have just fitted smart Meters..ha ha..not that it will make me have any less cuppa's ,or use less of the other gas/electric gobbling appliances..we are careful anyway..:o)
